LG6 is probably gonna flop tbh

Let's hope not. It's difficult to go against the trends. But Sucker by Jonas Borthers is doing well and it's not a trap or r&b song.

Halsey, Ariana, Billie and Ava Max already revived pop music. Gaga doesn’t need to this time

She can. I mean this year we've been seeing more and more pop songs take place on the Hot 100. The GP is slowly listening to more pop. Whoever puts out an incredible pop era, with a great album, performances, public appearances and the like can revive it. We just need a push to cause a domino effect.

She already did it with Shallow. Billie's music is indie pop with some urban and electronic influences and Ariana's is R&B/ urban pop. And Shallow was power rock. Everything that is viral, hits the charts and catches attention is pop regardless of style. :huntyga: But if LG6 is heading into a more conventional pop direction, maybe, like she did with The Fame.

That I dont agree with. One song doesn't just automatically lose its genre and turns pop if it becomes a hit. Sure it becomes popular but it doesn't become POP pop.

Also there are a lot of artists who dont even chart and that still make music in the genre of pop.

There is a debate around the topic but the idea is that pop = popular. Genre is mostly presentation and pop had always been borrowing from other genres: rock, country, jazz, electronic. It's definition changes from decade to decade.

If Pop "doesn't exist" why there are genres like Electropop, Dancepop, etc... :excuseu:

I don't know anymore.. After seeing pretty much everyone else flop this year, my expectations aren't as high.

Inb4 Adele and Rihanna debut at #2 ,  I wouldn't be surprised at this point

I don’t think so. If she’s going the same route creatively as with Joanne (making an album in couple of months camp) with a questionable concept and message, what looks quite likely with all the money side projects.

well she did TFM in 2 weeks.

pop is experiencing some quiet version of a revival right now, this boring taylor swift/lorde jack antonoff 80s thing mixed with charli xcx's realm of females (i just bunch all the kims and avas under her umbrella tbh).

I feel as though theres been a new consensus about what 'pop' refers to. Its a vibe and a generally electronic sound. all genres are usually peppered with other genres though, fusions. most music doesnt solely exist in insular spaces anymore thanks to the internet. sans more strict genres like black metal.
