Otherwise he can claim it as plagiarism since he owns the original? Im not sure but either way, imaging re-recording 5 albums with 10+ songs each, producing them and mastering them. Its time consuming and expensive. This is from a music licensor advice article... Masters vs Publishing http://www.musicdealers.com/blog/post/2013/10/music-licensing-101-masters-vs-publishing/ "you can create a cover or “re-record,” which is essentially your own master recording of a song. If you create your own version, you no longer need to use the record label’s master, right? But regardless of the new master recording, you’re still using the composition and lyrics. So you will have to get permission from the publisher regardless." TS may own rights to to her compositions but re-recording is not ideal. Imagine Gaga rerecording all of The Fame NOW? After 10yrs of life experience, completely different headspace, being a completely different person. Nevermind the time wear on vocal quality. What label would back that expense? Would EVERY person that bought the first album buy this one? How can you predict sales of something so particular? You could go in debt doing this (wow. thats actualy the leverage a label has over an unknown artists isnt it) Its a lost cause really. BenG 19,908
This is not just for the entertainment industry. Even in tech, an inventor almost never owns his invention, as it belongs to the company per the employment contract.

If I were in Taylor's shoes I would make a selection of maybe around 20 songs from those first 6 albums (the most recognizable ones and her personal favorites), re-record them and release them as a Remastered Anthology. With her marketing team, she could 100% pull it off, I mean I can already see the physical copies bieng limited edition steel books with a signed letter or something. I know it's not ideal, but it would be something.

Her masters are in the hands of someone who bullied her. And re-recording each song released from her first 6 albums would take a long time. I imagine she is pissed. I would. But don't see how things can't turn out so bad abruptly for her. Her music it's her music forever. And i think she can try to buy the master still, some artists manage to do it later. And the good thing she negotiate the new contract with her master included from what i recall. Everything will be ok. 🙂
sipthistea 21,099
Ugh, I hate this music industry. I'm glad Gaga has her own manager, and not that "stars" manager. With ups and downs, but at least she can trust Bobby (At least I hope he's a decent man)

She will not sound the same. Her old and present selves will be constantly compared. Look at how many ppl constantly question Gagas abilities bc they can't stop comparing her against the 2009 version of her. Recording just to rerecord , and light years away from that era, not worth the dragging. Not worth undermining one's self confidence really. weed 73,931
that's crazyyyyy!! I didn't know it would be so devastating to her/her relation to Scooter runs so deep. She puts so much of herself into her music, literally wrote entire albums by herself, cowrote everything she's ever released... that's really sad.
