LilyLark 10,122
For some reason I can't get it to link, but Liza said something along the lines of "Judy Garland would have at first laughed and then been into the idea of Gaga in ASIB." Of course it was taken out of context as "Liza Throws Shade; Judy Would Have Laughed at Gaga," but I thought the sentiment was interesting because I feel like a lot of the public (even some LM) felt the same way when the film was first announced. No one knew Bradley could sing, and Gaga barely had any acting experience so people were like "lmao this will be a mess" and then the trailer came out and people were all of the sudden into the idea. Edited as this part wasn't clear: I've seen a few people online taking it as shade because some trashy tabloids were—but it's clearly not shade if you read past the headline. Liza likes Gaga (most LM know that) and accurately summed up everyone's first impression of the project...additionally, if Liza shades someone she's very open that she's throwing shade. Maleficent 6
I was always under the impression that Liza and Gaga had a great relationship. In a way they're joined at the hip
Guest Adarsh
Liza loves Gaga and so does her sister Lorna Luft. Don’t you guys dare say anything bad about her.

Oh for sure, I was just adding the last bit because I know some take everything as shade and apparently some of the media was taking it as shade. But I thought it was an interesting point because Liza basically summarized how much of the public and some LM first felt about the movie. She accurately read the locals. Yes sweetie, I completely understood what you’re saying haha I’m on your side. My comment was targeted at other people who might think Liza is mean and start hating her. Yeah, I just put that bit in (and I edited it to make it more clear) to clarify that Liza wasn't throwing shade even if a few people/a few tabloids spun it that way. Part of me would love for Gaga to do Cabaret on Broadway, but I don't think anyway can live up to Liza.

Judas Society 3,584
LMs who has been following Gaga's career knows that Liza and Lorna loves Gaga and they have a good friendship between them. It's only those toxic stans who takes everything as shade try to create drama coz they feed off these cattyness to replace the dullness in their own lives. For sure...I just wanted to include the news since I thought it was interesting that Liza basically captured the sentiment of most when they first heard the news. I included the "out of context" thing because, well, it was taken wildly out of context by some. Since it's been such a success for Gaga, it's weird to remember a year and a half ago a lot of people thought it was potentially a looming disaster—I thought it would be good but I never expected it to be "tons of Oscar nominations" good. Liza also talked about the Judy biopic with Renee. She seems to have relaxed a bit about the topic, but I feel for her—it's got to be super raw. Judas Society 3,584
I'm not sure if I wanna watch the biopic. The thing about biopics about stars who has been gone for a long time is that it does not completely reflect what the star actually gone through in their lives. BoRhap is prime example. Who really knows how Freddie feels about certain events in his life that I don't think Rami captured at all. The fact that Rami won the oscar just goes to show how much audiences only wants to see something exciting and dramatic from these films. Judy has violent ups and downs in her life. Renee is an excellent actress. But to play a real life character can be a double edged sword. Plus, if they depict something that may not be entirely true or shows Judy in a skewed point of view, that will not go well with her real life friends (who knows how many of them left) and particularly her fans. I feel like Judy would be a verry hard woman to do a film about—as you said, she was very complex. It could easily slip into being overly negative during one of her lows or it could gloss over everything and be wildly inaccurate like BoRhap. I've only ever watched a docu about her life story on E! True Hollywood Story but that can be edited to be dramatic. But that got me interested in her as a person, what has she gone through, multiple marriages and the tragic life that she had due to exploitation of her childhood. Could she have recovered if Hollywood pressures didn't get to her? Could she lead a better life if she decided against Hollywood execs or famous husbands who continue to exploit her? That's why Somewhere Over The Rainbow became an iconic song due the intertwining of her life and her performance of this song.
Hades 27,980
Whoever says anything negative because media twists everything show them this. Liza is honest and speaks her mind. Let's not forget how monsters were messy before the trailer was out.

It's depressing how the system (and men) exploited so many women during that time—Judy, Dorothy Danridge, Ava Gardner, etc. I'm interested in the film, but I can see why Liza would have severe reservations.
