Its so true. But also, generalizing fans as being terrible is wrong. There are so many good fans out there. The problem is that the worst ones have the loudest voice and the most followers.

But I didn’t say “fans” were terrible. I said the culture was. Big difference.

I mean, I went to see the movie 5 times in theaters to support her...I also took my whole family the night it opened and that cost me $150+

I’ve purchased many copies of the soundtrack and listened to Shallow on repeat since it was released.

I mean, I dont need a personal thank you because thats literally stupid and I did it because I want to and the work is worth supporting. It’s just a shame because she has so many fans who support her and she ignores them now.

I don’t want this to come off weird, because I don’t think that she owes us anything at all...

I’m not even sure if I am making sense. :spin:

I mean specifically for the awards. None of us can affect the actual votes, so we're pretty removed from that. If Shallow goes #1, I agree, she should (and probably will) thank her fans & the public. I get where you're coming from though. I agree.

It’s so late for me here so I feel like I am rambling. You are right, I wasn’t thinking of it in terms of actual votes. :huntyga:

Fan culture isn’t terrible, “stan” culture is terrible. I’ve been immersed and a part of many fanbases that are wonderful (shout out to Buffy fans, Xfiles fans, Harry Potter fans, and Fleetwood Mac fans). It’s the music “stanbases” that are toxic.

I get what you mean. I think she is still very appreciative and greatful for her fans.

It is just unfortunate that the best way to interact with the fans is social media. So because she has taken herself out of that space it seems like she doesn’t care.

I wouldn’t put too much into her not thanking fans during this awards season, I really believe this was all too much for her.

Plus every time she logs onto Twitter it’s someone asking her if she’s screwing Mark or Rocket, missing Christian or getting back with Taylor.

I totally agree with you. Honestly, I am thirty and am not consumed as to whether or not Gaga goes on social media and talks with us. However, I do feel badly that our relationship with her was ruined as it was special.

I haven’t ever been a part of or met a fan base that I enjoyed in a big way

But you make a good point about stans. It just seems line between fan and stan is getting awfully thin.

Or maybe it’s just the stans are too loud they drown out the rest.

I hear ya. Maybe things will get better?

It might not really be on the fans/stans whatever you want to call them.

Now a celeb can’t tweet a damn thing without having to apologize, explain, or have some rag blog write a story about it.

That might be why she only uses social media to promote stuff now.

I think they largely drown the rest. Every Gaga show that I have been to has been a wonderful experience with really great fans.

Personally I have only had really bad experiences with  pop girl/modern musician fanbases online. I think its younger fanbases too. Because I was always an online fan person and message board rat growing up (I was on the Fuselage for freaking LOST :air: ) and I’ve never experienced the type of stuff that I see on twitter.

I’m sure its way better for her mental wellbeing as well. The stuff that I see on social media is horrendous and I don’t know how celebrities deal with it. They are real people with feelings. :duck:

I know people think it was corny, but what she said at the Grammys with Michelle Obama was powerful and more sincere than a traditional fan shoutout...

Spoiler

“They said I was weird, that my look, my choices, my sound, that it wouldn’t work,” she said. “But music told me not to listen to them. Music took my ears, took my hands, my voice and my soul, and it led me to all of you and to my Little Monsters who I love so much.”

LMs on social media don't bother hiding how deranged they are. They couldn't even help her go #1 without borderline humiliating antics.

She did at these Grammys, not during her acceptance speech but during her segment with 4 other women.

So maybe that’s it. Because all my recent pop culture interests have been ruined by Twitter. Two actors specifically.  More TV shows than I can count.

I was message board rat too, but even those can be toxic. There is nothing worse than loving something so much, the getting on a board and finding out people HATE it.

Kind of like when people here sh!t on the Joanne album. People can have an opinion of course and like what they like, but sometimes it just brings things down. Especially when you want to share the love with other fans.

I'm not sure she will thank the fans, cause that may just draw more attention to the stupid ass Shallowbucks thing.

I agree with everyone saying it’s the social media stuff that she hates.

We’ve seen her have some really lovely interactions with fans lately (I’m thinking of the Japanese contest winners before Enigma, and the people brought onstage during Enigma itself, as well as one video of her talking with fans after the Toronto premiere of ASIB), and I think she still really loves those 1-on-1 interactions and finds them meaningful. But there is so much toxic stuff online, it really is better that she stays away unfortunately.

And I think it makes sense that she doesn’t thank fans during speeches for her acting stuff, that really feels like more of a music thing. No other actors ever thank fans unless it’s like a people choice type thing, and I’m sure she’s aware of that.
