What were your thoughts when this happened?

Gimme More

12 years to this day (Feb 16 2007) Britney went into a hair salon and shaved her head and then went on to hit a paparazzi's car with an umbrella.

What were your thoughts when this happened? I genuinely was shocked and was worried about her all throughout 2007 and early 2008 when she was hospitalised. All the media really attacked her and the paparazzi were horrendous with her not leaving her alone, I think a lot of people around that time thought she was not going to make it and be around for much longer.

This isn't a hate thread, I just wanted to make a thread to show how much I admire her for going through such a hard time and making it out on the other end and seeming to be happier and in a much better place in her life. I guess this just shows no matter how bad things could be in your life, things can get better. It just shows what a difference time makes

So happy for her, she has since put out 4 albums and gone on 3 tours and had an extremely successful Vegas residency and most importantly she shares custody of her children.

Smother Em Eh

Well I was way too young to know but as I’ve gotten older I’ve heard more and more about her breakdown and it makes me sad and feel sorry for her. So glad she got past it.Everyone thought she wasn’t gonna make it and then she did and came back stronger then ever, almost like nothing ever happened. It’s so inspirational too. Proud to be a Britney Stan. :)

I was 4 years old at the time so I don’t remember what happened at that exact moment however I still can’t belive how horrible society treated her. It’s really quite said too, to see how, even to this day, it has greatly affected her career.

After her breakdown, her dad took over her life, and her management team took over her music life, which is why even since Blackout there hasn’t been a phenomenal album from. Circus was okay, Femme Fatale was alright to l, but looking at pictures and videos during those eras I can’t help but cringe, now knowing what went on behind the scenes. Britney Jean wasn’t even her own album, and that whole era she was just in Las Vegas. Glory was okay but again her management took over and didn’t  want to promote anything else besides Make Me (which wasn’t even a good lead)

i hope that her dad and her management finally let her make  her own decisions, because the Britney from 1999-2006 was a force to be reckoned with and she could really save pop rn

✨oh the lights dim while we’re dancing yeah the floor is shaking in this disco heaven✨

I became a stan in 2007, I always used to like her music but from 2007 I really started to root for her to get better and it made me really admire her! I agree it is really inspirational and I respect her decision to not really talk about it since because a lot went on back then and you can tell her trust was really battered and that she's worked really hard to get to where she is now. Her personality year by year shines more and more like it used to

Yes she is extremely introverted now compared to her when she was in her prime, but I think that's how she wants to keep it. In all her newer interviews she always states how she is 'boring' and I think that is her way of saying to the press it's not worth following her and I don't think she does anything controversial anymore because she doesn't want that sort of attention again. She just seems to want to focus on her family and music is just a hobby and tbh I think that's fair enough.

I can't wait though for the day she is free from her Conservatorship.

That J

I was 27 (I think lol) and thought it was hysterical for a moment and then was all "mmmmhmmmm that's what happens!"  Mariah had her meltdown so this wasnt new to see. Plus I wasnt a true fan with the exception of a few songs but it was big news.

I ended up feeling intrigued by the whole thing so I bought the album she released after, "Blackout" and that, to this day, is one of the best mainstream pop albums EVER. Then I bought "Circus" and loved it. Havent truly enjoyed anything like those 2 but she did good for herself finally.

When she went to Vegas, I remember thinking that was the BEST idea for her so it's nice seeing she recovered.

I remember everyone talking about it but not really remembering how I actually felt at the time. I'd stopped being a fan of her by that time as I felt I'd outgrown her (though, listening back to her amazing In The Zone album, I don't know why). But after this, I started feeling really sorry for her and was afraid that she was going to die. When I heard she was putting out an album, I became addicted to Gimme More and was looking up all the possible songs that might be on the album in demo form on YouTube, so I was pumped for Blackout's release and got it the day it came out. I still felt she was in a really fragile state, however, which explained why she didn't tour with it, so was surprised when she followed it up with Circus the following year, which was deemed more as the "proper" comeback which actually involved promotion and a tour as opposed to being basically hospitalised the previous time. I'm really glad that popstars are no longer pushed into making albums when they're physically not ready anymore. I'm really surprised that more people didn't object to her being made to do this album despite being so vulnerable and even really objected to all the press intrusion that led her to this meltdown in the first place, but then...it was a different time back then. We just accepted that this was the life that celebrities chose. We've become more humane. I sometimes think that the reason why paparazzi by law can no longer be mega intrusive is because we don't want to create any Britney situation. Many of us actually thought she was going to be dead within a year back then. And that's not being mean, it's just being realistic. She was approaching 27 and people maybe thought she had every trait of a future member of the 27 club. Someone must have been watching over her for it not to have happened.

Well I was very young and I didnt understand the implications of mental health and what she was going through, so at the time it kinda dissappointed me, I tought she just went nuts.

Glamourpuss

I was 19 that year. I remember it being something to gossip about at work. I worked in a fashion store and remember some of the girls reading gossip magazines about her (back when MySpace was popular and we didn't have smartphones). I didn't properly understand mental illness at the time so Britney shaving her head was entertainment for us. She was somebody to laugh at. It's really cruel now when I look back. I remember nobody had empathy for Amy Winehouse either.

But people nowadays are more aware of the struggles she has faced and it's less of a taboo. I feel like people are alot kinder now than they were back then. I've even had mental issues myself and there are times when I've broken down and almost shaved my head. I totally feel empathy for her now and can't believe I ever thought it was funny but that's what the tabloids do unfortunately. Besides, she'd been a bit erratic for a while partying with Paris Hilton and flashing her vag while getting out of cars. :awkney:
