"If you think that pop stars are anything other than prisoners, then you are ****ing kidding yourself. I know them. They are crying for help in their music. We think that we’re doing the world a favor by recognizing the innate wholesomeness of this form of music, like, “Oh, I don’t know, it’s just fun! Something that was made to be liked!” But why do you think that Lady Gaga or Beyoncé would come to old Uncle Jerry over here for songs if they weren’t looking for something? If they weren’t like, “Get me away from these ****ing psychos.” Both of them know I’m not running around looking for these gigs. I’ve just done co-writes with those two people. The only reason it happened is because people played them my music and then they asked me to write for them. It’s as simple as that. I have no interest in doing it."

Well, she does that with almost all of her songs, doesn't she? Just think about Dope or Gypsy live

I see it as her saying she writes all of the songs where she is credited, or rather, she has a big part in it and is active in the process. Semantically it sounds off, but I think this is what she means.

In this case, my thought was that she wanted a FJM song to sing. She didn’t want to just write a song, she wanted a song of his. So they got together, shot the s*** as Tillman says they did, and they talked about what she wanted from a song. Then from there he wrote something. An honest collaboration but still his song. She said she thought he was “such a poet”, so this would make sense to me. It wasn’t just like, “oh you got some songs lying  around?” It seems more to be that they talked about the direction and vibe. The demos are recorded because he wrote them and recorded them so that then Gaga and Mark could pick the one they wanted.

I get you. I just thought that the further she’d go in her career we’d see less and less co-writers, not more and more :messga: I mean, Katy and Bey almost work the same way, going off of Sia’s descriptions :rip:

I definitely agree with that. I feel that Million Reasons would have been so much better if it was more like the Royal Variety performance and the Joanne song would have been better if it was the piano version all along. I feel like some of the songs don't pack the punch that she was aiming for and it's like she added the correct emotions later on in other performances and I wish she'd done the same thing for the studio album. It just seemed to be too rushed, to me.

Oh god i Just think the first joanne version is something else.. sounds so vulnerable, raw and it touched me buuuuuut i can ser something with the Rush angle al least when i first heard it but then not, i don't know if it has to be with being something so different  and taking me by surprise but well i don't know it doesn't feel undone to me. I did had a feeling with certain song on ARTPOP like being over painted or not following one Flow but then it's an album dear to my heart

Though FJM *did* say this was way more immersive than beyonce (not pitting them against each other). So I feel like on paper it may look that way but the reality is different. And FJM is a d*** so he wouldn’t lie about something like that. If there’s b*****t, he’ll say it.
