Closer to the Truth came out on September 20th, 2013. I looked on Gagapedia and saw that you got this explanation from there. Whoever wrote this on Gagapedia most likely ment September of 2013, although the lead and second singles were released in June and October of that year, respectively.

I dunno, i just copy and paste.

Actually Wikipedia also says the same thing about September 2011 so I don't know.

SCHEISSEMONTRE

The song was ment to be on Cher's album as a lead single but her management already decided a lead single so they scrapped the song entirely. That’s all I know about the song.

most of Gaga's demos are demos because they have the CHEESIEST lyrics you can tell they're written for their melodies not as final lyrics

for some reason monsters cling to these songs the most because of their potential not realizing that the songs are actually cheesy

This answer is so fair and respectful that its kind of annoying no one actually discusses it when discussing why this duet never came to official fruition. Like this should be immediately shared with anyone that ever asks this question again.

THAT BEING SAID, part of me is just like....she should've just given it the green light, had the duet in her official repertoire, get the streams and attention, and then work on a better song after this one did well. I mean personally I think it was kind of corny and its not like it was going to be a #1 smash BUT the Cher consumers would've dug it, older gays wouldve dug it, younger gays wouldve dug it. It just wouldve been successful within their demographics so in that sense to me she shouldve just released it but I get where shes coming from here.

You're talking as if Gaga and Cher are money hungry whores. Genuine artists would put the quality of their art over profits, I believe.

Well its not just about being "greedy". I think it was a decent pop song that would have satiated both of their supporters, so in a sense, why not? Not even necessarily about the money but the opportunity to be involved with a Cher project and have that moment even if its not exactly as she would have wanted it. The song itself wasn't lacking care, it was her creation, it just wasn't as involved as Gaga would have liked. My argument being, in that moment, it didn't have to be that big of a deal. At the same time I acknowledge Gagas sentiment and can agree with it. But here we are how many years later and they've never collaborated? Sometimes you just gotta take the chance when it presents itself. That boat has now sailed.

Right but the potential is exactly what they're latching onto. When I have ever wished Earthquake, for example, would have came into fruition on an official project what I am actually saying is that I wish she'd taken that amazing demo and polished it up and made it album ready. Not wanting it to be released as is, although I don't doubt some people do. And FOHL utilized an aspect of the Earthquake Demo but its not like it was the evolution of it imo. Anyway.

Some opportunities aren't meant to be taken when the timing and other elements aren't right. And they're not dead yet. I'm sure things wipp work out in their perfect time :)
