Oddly this is a a sign of a healthy job market.

The article says that food and service related jobs are seeing the biggest numbers of quits by percentage... that portends to a positive since they feel they can get a better paying job or they wouldn't have quit.

The unemployment rate is 3 7 %.  and some companies are increasing wages for certain jobs so they can keep the people they want...

Plus I find it odd that a liberal leaning news agency would post this information during an election week

This isn't new news tbh. Young people have been finding different types of work and have been looking elsewhere to gain life experience lately. Nothing about this being "liberal" is relevant.

I'm about to quit mine :awesome:

I've already got a couple jobs lined up where I'll get paid more but have more free time. It's crazy how business profits and the cost of living have sky rocketed but wages have pretty much stayed the same. Time for the working class to fight back

Same thing in Canada. It's very fun because me, a student with little experience, can be hired where the f*ck I want and never get fired :awesome: which was not the case only two years ago.

At my job in a store, for example, they're missing so many employees that if, for example, I were a knda bad employee (which I'm not :firega:), they'd still be better off with me than without.

Economy

The bad news is the economic benefits of this are somewhat limited if companies do not use labor shortage as a push to invest and increase productivity

Higher wages in this case only lead to Inflation which cancels out the gains to begin with although that's for the economy as a whole. If people at the bottom get more of the gains at least that helps with inequality

The problem the overall GDP or economic output is nearing full capacity, the US needs more productivity per worker or the economy won't keep growing much longer

Were starting to have the same issue here in Canada too hence the rate hikes. Our unemployment by US measurement is slightly higher 4.8% but our labor force participation rate is also higher so there's fewer discouraged workers left to bring into workforce...

North America in general needs more productivity now or else the economy will hit limits which will trigger more inflation which will force higher and higher rates and eventually cause next REC*SS**N :deadbanana:

Automisation and robotics should help with productivity per employee

As far as wage hikes causing inflation.....not so much as the balance to a stronger middle class needs to happen first

I can see basic services and goods spiking ...since the lower income bracket will likely spend their new income there first

Hi end economics goes with wall Street and entertainment spendimg mostly...

Wages do cause inflation. What u want is higher wages than inflation which can happen a few deffirebt ways

Higher productivity with things like automation and robotics to offset higher wages so the cost of a product or service doesn't rise with the wages

Another way is if consumers save some of their wages and demand doesn't rise as fast as wages and that forces companies to keep competing and so they let higher wage costs eat into profits instead

The first one raises quality of life for rich and poor alike, the second one doesn't increase overall output but it does transfer more of the wealth to the low and middle class because wages would rise faster than inflation for middle class but would rise slower than inflation for wealthy

Because consumers are not holding back spending but productivity gains have been weak, I think higher inflation (and higher interests to fight inflation) will simply cancel out the benefits of wage gains overall

But if companies take labor shortage as a push to invest more in faster production, then I believe we can get real economic growth not inflation in nominal terms

Don't forget economy is still growing because employment is still growing but with labor market tight, that won't be a major source of real growth for long

What you'll need soon enough is unskilled lower paid workers from somewhere.

If ONLY immigration provided that. Oh. It does. Poor america.
