RAMROD 95,542
Bad news for Movie Pass subcribers! Taking a cue from other popular apps, MoviePass is about to start charging customers more when they want to see a popular film. According to Business Insider, MoviePass will begin a “high-demand” pricing system in July that will add “$2 to higher for titles the app deems very popular with MoviePass subscribers.” This means any block buster movies in any seasons/months, and movies that unknowingly got popular like Get Out last year for example. The whole point of MoviePass is not having to pay for movies. MoviePass has already eliminated the ability to see a film more than once, and now if you want to see, say, Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom on opening weekend, you may have to pay extra. The article says the upcharge on popular titles would be “$2 to higher,” which is a pretty ominous figure. If you’ve ever tried to get an Uber at rush hour, you know just how ominous that could potentially be. Always remember, when something seems too good to be true, it almost always is I wouldn’t agree with your conclusion. It isn’t that they’re super nefarious, it’s that they have a **** business model. They pay for the entirety of the movie ticket while you get a discounted rate? Then their only other revenue source is data sharing. I’m pissed about this and it does make me reconsider my subscription even though I love MoviePass, but I don’t think they’re doing it out of greed and more out of necessity to stay afloat because theaters are holding out on giving them a special deal on ticket pricing which is what their business is currently contingent upon.
