Is MR a suicide prevention anthem?

I've always accepted Million Reasons as a song about Gaga singing about a lover but upon listening to the song again, I realized that it could also be interpreted as an anthem against suicide.

Am I tripping or does anybody hear it too?

I agree, sometimes when I feel really down, the 'baby I just need one good one too stay' can really lift me up :kara:

I'm not suicidal tho but I feel the not-giving-up message of the song applies to them as well.

The MR video definitely hints at suicide (or at least some sort of mental breakdown). Gaga's one reason to stay (keep living) is her younger sister (she realizes this upon receiving the necklace).

Yeah, I believe so. It gives you hope, it makes you see the light at the end of the tunnel. :kara:

I've said this a few times but Million Reasons saved my life in a way. The song was how I was looking at life when I heard it and I had a date and plans set already to commit suicide. I know it's cheesy but Gaga was my one good reason to stay for long enough for me to find more reasons in my life. If I hadn't heard that song during the Carpool Karaoke I don't know what would've happened.

Recently I have been struggling with self destructive thoughts, and Million Reasons reminds me of the reasons why I shouldn't go. My friends, my family and you, monsters.

Gaga has stated a couple times that she thought about quitting the music industry and dealing with depression so it's not too far fetched that the song can be related to that. Despite the song being about a lover at its surface layer, the MV clearly shows connections to her family. It's definitely allowed her to steer a different direction for public perception since it's her first actual ballad to be a single.

There are always more reasons to stay than to walk away. Don’t give up, life IS beautiful❤️

Million Reasons is so powerful

YES. Thanks! I’ve been thinking about it for some time but I’m glad you made a thread about it.

I feel like she’s blaming God for making her life so hard (that she can’t bear it anymore) but in the same time asking “Him” to give her a good reason to stick around.

You can never know what the songwriter wrote the song about. They often find other interpretations for the song because they don't want people to know the real meaning.
