It’s supposed to sound dated. -“The Cure” is a tropical house song. A lot of top 40 mainstream tropical house songs have a more minimal (or in other words boring) sound. (Granted not all Tropical House is boring, just the kind that the radio is playing)(Gaga added her own twist by singing her vocals, instead of whispering them) -The Million Reasons/Dope/Gypsy comparison isn’t the fairest comparison since “Dope” and “Gypsy” both have electro influences and “Million Reasons” is country inspired. Skabi 3,096
ur comparing dance pop instrumentals with toned down "country" rock instrumentals, of course you feel like they're boring, they're not heavy electronic etc
MeloArtDramaPop 789
ARTPOP had clean production but nonetheless still amazing Born This Way had loud productions Joanne had raw and americana styled production it’s the aesthetic and it fit them perfectly, imagine having Born This Way production for Joanne, Critics would destroy ha. Esp since one main critique for her is that her productions swallop up the song.

Quartz 12,534
Jesus christ, Perfect Illusion shits on all her other instrumentals. ARTPOP the song's instrumental slays me to this day. DANCIN' IN CIRCLES'S INSTRUMENTAL IS A JOURNEY THROUGH VOODOO SEXUAL WOODS Inside, we are really made the same. 🕊
monketsharona 80,710
I agree for Joanne. PI is the highlight of it in terms of instrumentals But yeah I feel like her pop / dance production and instru were better on TF, TFM and BTW. Just my opinion though. I recently rediscovered Alejandro intru with the little sounds that are popping at some moments 1 hour ago, kevinsteve said: I agree, but Hey Girl has a hell of an instrumental. The best since 2011 with Aura in my opinion. It's quite redoing Bennie and the Jets just saying...

LGMonster95 13,704
They are TOTALLY different kind of genres, Joanne is like that on purpose to get on theme with the album/concept. Anyway Perfect Illusion is definitelly one of the best productions that she has
Stewful2929 786
They are different styles of music so they aren’t comparable tho. They were meant to be the way they are
