When I had goldfish they didn't even survive long, so it makes me feel really bad as a previous owner to hear that they're out there thriving like anything in random lakes and ponds

Meanwhile all my animals live past their life expediencies  "these fish only live for two years" said the pet shop owner. Lefty was kicking for five years  goldfish are supposed to live for decades apparently so we'll add "fish murderer" to your resume

But yeah, OT: It's pretty much common sense to not release animals into the wild, especially non native ones

The average pet goldfish lives for 5-10 years, but in the wild they live up to 25 years.

Anyway, anyone who pet fish must be very dedicated since it is very tedious. Gotta keep the water right, keep the ecosystem right, since all it takes is one wrong fish/other aquatic animals or corals or anemone to ruin everything, and the aquarium clean all the time, and all that.
