Magoo 6
It's so unfair that radio makes up the majority of Hot 100 points... sales and streaming reflect what people REALLY want to hear, while radio just reflects what programmers (and sometimes record labels) choose to shove down our throats. I make it (division of the total points from the top 30 or so songs) Sales 44% Radio 42% Streaming 14% That corresponds with a formula: Billboard Points = [sales(K) * 65%] + [Mediabase Airplay(m AI) * 78%] + [On demand streaming(K) * 5%] note that when sales are overall low like now, its multiplier (now 65%) increases, to maintain the approx 44%/42%/14% division of points. At the moment, CMM is still far enough ahead (about 24 pts) to retain #1 for a 9th week. Whistle will probably move #2 ahead of Wide Awake, but depends on streaming. Do youtube views count as streaming? What's the difference with the charts "Pop songs" and "Radio songs" ? Edited August 5, 2012 by _Scheisse
craig 680
Based on Magoo, I think Carly is #1 again this week, but Whistle will take over next week. Still the hip-hop song about BJs isn't getting the massive updates you'd expect from a top seller. After Whistle got #1 on Canadian Hot 100, it was soon replaced by Fun and Owl Carly as top seller on itunes. What's the difference with the charts "Pop songs" and "Radio songs" ? Pop is the #1 radio format, but "radio songs" includes all formats (Pop, Hot AC, AC, Rhythmic, Urban, etc). Generally a pop artist like Gaga or Carly will peak first on pop, because the most popular pop songs cross over on a somewhat delayed basis. Klou 2,414
Do youtube views cound as streaming? What's the difference with the charts "Pop songs" and "Radio songs" ? Pop Radio is based strictly on Mainstream Top 40 based radio stations. Radio Songs is a culmination of every radio format. So if Poker Face is played on a Country station, it will count for Radio Songs, but not Pop Songs.
Arturo 40,746
They should change the name of the chart from Pop Songs to Pop Radio :nails:

Klou 2,414
They should change the name of the chart from Pop Songs to Pop Radio Yeah, I agree. I usually just refer to it as Pop Radio.
Arturo 40,746
Yeah, I agree. I usually just refer to it as Pop Radio. I always used to wonder why Y&I peaked at #7 on Pop Songs but #6 on the Hot 100 I was like "Shouldnt it have a higher peak on Pop Songs than overall?" Then I found out that that was for radio :toofloppy:
