Vergil 2,296
I just don’t understand why religion is still a thing? It was 2011 lel.
Bottleblonde 2,342
I don’t know honestly. I can’t remember any backlash in Europe from Judas. I think overexposure led to the “downfall” Black Aura
PoshLife 16,983
I don't really think so. I think it was destined to happen based on oversaturation. It happens with a lot of artists, but particularly female celebrities (see Anne Hathaway and Jennifer Lawrence for a few other examples of women going from media darlings to "fun to hate" targets). In Gaga's case, she promoted that album for a really long time, and some of the songs she was promoting just weren't that strong. By the time You and I was a single, for example, we'd been hearing that song for like a year. But, living in the NYC area, I can say we were still hearing Gaga songs like You and I and MTN on Z100 and other big radio stations. So I don't think you can pinpoint her decline to one single era. I'd say it was rather a combination of oversaturation with BTW, followed by a long break, then a single release that was really sloppy ("911 pop emergency" and the Perez drama) that led a lot of the public to decide she was sort of over. CakeLikeLG 6,275
yup. Alejandro - Judas eras made her look satanic in the eyes of the GP. Thankfully it's 2018 and every granny and every auntie loves her now. She still needs the teens back on her side tho live each day like Gaga might drop an album
Fish 6,123
just wrong. Judas is symptomatic of a greater problem for gaga, and Judas is not solely responsible for her "downfall".

FfFfFfFF 55,902
I think her start cause her downfall. The reason why she became famous is her crazy persona which is also the reason why her ''downfall''' happened. Maybe she was just supposed to come and go in the eyes of the GP. Sirius094 2,248
Yes, the downfall started with Judas, before she was everywhere, was massive and had hits. the last hit was Applause, altough it was a downgrade compared with Poker Face or Bad Romance. TEOG was a hit and the other singles didn’t fare as well because she was so overexposed. What really killed her momentum was Applause going head to head with Roar and failing to top it. Then ARTPOP was far too different and loud for the go to really enjoy. Then she also had her team falling apart, and then she went on to tell the public that part which made it seem like she was washed out. Now she’s slowly climbing back up but I think she needs to kick it into high gear a little because the gp is already starting to dislike her little by little. Starting to dislike her? More like starting to forget her. The number of times I heard people say "Oh yeah, what happened to her" when they announced she was doing the Super Bowl was just ... Even after the SB, I can see that she's lost a lot of her relevance with the GP. If she wants to regain it, she needs to come through with a popular hit off of LG6 or else it's just going to be another album that stans buy. TEANUS 15,062
Judas did start the downfall of her likeability, but not her success, as others have said, TEOG and You and I are two of her most well-liked singles within the GP next to Applause, Million Reasons, Alejandro, and LoveGame. She didn’t really have a downfall of possible success, they just stopped taking advantage of her ability of success during ARTPOP because she was tired, overworked, and depressed. Had Applause gotten a little more promo worldwide (UK appearances, AUS performance) it would have been bigger than TEOG. DWUW had the potential to be her next number one. Early 2014 was a relatively neutral market. Dark Horse didn’t really reach its peak until february/ March, Beyoncé was more R&B/ urban, Bruno’s era was over, the next big smash wasn’t wasn’t until Fancy in april/ May. With a video the week of a the Voice it would’ve went top 3 at least. Gypsy, G.U.Y, and MANiCURE we’re all due to be big hits as well. The GP liked them, my GP friend’s pick them as their favorites from ARTPOP British social ladies with upturned pinkies, glasses clinking // xoxoTEANUS
papergangstas 1,364
I think it was You & I don’t drag me please and I didn’t forget the two points on the “u” it’s just that my keyboard doesn’t have it One of me is wiser. TexasMonster 3
In my opinion this all depends on where you're from. In Texas there was a noticeable change with the Alejandro music video. I remember seeing friends and others posting about it on facebook with disgust. Like she went from that weird different badass to, "oh, she's just satanic". Then Born This Way came out and it really seemed to give her a boost at first. I mean even in my ultra conservative city, in my ultra conservative state people were bopping! I remember being at stop lights are hearing people rocking out to BTW, singing along at the top of their lungs. Then the music video came out... All over again people thought it was satanic. Nobody understood the message. Not long after that, we got Judas. It was essentially the nail in the coffin. A lot of people were just officially done with her at that point. Yes, she still had some success with TEOG but nothing like pre Judas. After that she had a lot of bad press. Media really just seemed like they were trying to take her down and the BTWFoundation. I won't even get into the mess that was Applause v Roar... Then Perfect Illusion came out and I never heard it on the radio, not once! I did hear Million Reasons one time on the radio but it was after the Super Bowl, and I think I heard The Cure on the radio once... I know this is not everyone experience, I know Judas was a hit in other parts of the world, but in the bible belt of the US it was rough

WeSmokinEmAll 331
I actually think making "I Like It Rough" the lead and then "Boys Boys Boys" as a follow up was her downfall. Not to mention TFM's lead "Teeth"
