ARTPOP = Organic Gaga Era

So the end of the Joanne era had me thinking...

Our girl Gaga has mentioned recently in her tours that this Era has been about all her parts as Stefani Joanne Angeline Germanotta and we've been known that the album is dedicated to her aunt. Which got me thinking, her albums have very specific inspirations and dedications.

The Fame = Inspired by Hollywood and Fame

The Fame Monster = Inspired by Several Monsters Gaga has encountered

Born This Way = dedicated to the LGBT community

Cheek to Cheek = dedicated to the classics

Joanne = inspired and dedicated to Aunt Joanne

and...

ARTPOP = inspired by the culmination of art and music = LADY GAGA???

Did we get the organic GAGA during that era? Unfortunately, the era was a mess but we clearly witnessed how passionate she was and artistically just purging out to the world.

What do you guys think?

thats a interesting way to put it. I don't think gaga planned her career with those few sentences tho tbh:wtfga: but they definitely did evolve her in some way

I think that, to a very large degree, most of her eras revolved around herself. She's the kind of person who makes the best music about herself. There are exceptions like Born This Way, Angel Down, etc. but she has always related to her own messages in important ways.

I think that with ARTPOP, she definitely did start out with a concept that she was going to mold her album into. I don't think you can't call that "the" organic era vs. the others. She was doing a lot of things that she felt like but it was also drugs. ARTPOP was definitely one of her more organic eras but wasn't the only. :)

Well tbh, ARTPOP (as much as I love it) was an ultra-generic fan-service album (hence why I love it) that sort of shot itself in the foot in the middle of a marathon and never really recovered.

Reading that sentence aloud, I'm not sure what my own point is :ladyhaha: *continues to sip Chardonnay like the messy bitch I am :lolly:

ARTPOP, to me, is about the literal combination of art and pop. To make pop artistically relevant somehow and incorporate it into a mainstream.

That's something that's super interesting to me. I just wish the music for that album was as experimental as the visuals were, and some of the truly amazing artists she worked with for it (specifically Marina Abramović, my queen :diane:).

I kind of have a bad feeling she doesn't believe much in the ideology of ARTPOP anymore, though, which is a bit of a shame if it's true, but whatever. :selena:

I thought Joanne was her most organic era because that's the sound that most aligns with her country girl organic farmer persona.

But genuinely speaking, I still don't really know what to think of the ARTPOP era. All we really know is that she wrote and recorded a crap ton of material and that a huge portion of it got scrapped before we got the finalized album and that she was basically blitzed out of her mind on weed throughout most of the process. I think she intended for the era to be something very specific that was quite different from what it turned out to be. I mean, when I go back and read the press release for the album and the app, it really makes me kinda sad. That being said, I think the Cheek to Cheek and Joanne eras were the perfect follow up, and I'm so glad we got those eras.

Why's that? :) Yeah, her latest album didn't have too much art but that was just the way the album was. It was supposed to be down to earth. Like Born This Way without the avant garde.

But she still remains an artist who makes pop music and by definition infuses her art in pop. It's something she has talked about since the Fame era; I'd be surprised and disappointed if that were to change.

I mean, I get your point. But I just really want to see a more creative side to Gaga. I want to see a side of her that really devotes herself to musical conception, with a complete break-away from mainstream expectations. Sometimes I think she cares so much about pleasing us that she puts aside her own ambitions.

I suppose the best way I can describe it, would be ARTPOP, but with music similar to that of The Residents or Brian Eno or maybe Kate Bush's album The Dreaming. I don't think anybody here will have listened to any of those lot, but that's what I'd like to see from Gaga, someday.

That being said, I absolutely love her for her pop music and obviously they're all bops. I just would like to see her do more intricate stuff in the future.

Next time you're free, listen to the songs "Happy Home" and "My Window" by The Residents and imagine what they'd be like in Gaga's voice. That's what I want.

I agree with you. I do want more artistically rich music from her. More creative things. I am interested in seeing how she will accomplish that. As a popstar, she has to stay relevant to the GP and fans, you know. She isn't and won't ever be perceived as an indie or cult artist. I hope she finds a way to keep doing a lot of things. Maybe find a way to release an ARTPOP style album (not necessarily in sound but inspiration) without the massive backlash that came with it. I personally don't want LG6 to be generic low-key pop. Let's see what she brings to the table. It is true that she has never done what people expected from her upcoming album.

I kind of disagree about her having to stay relevant, but I see your other points. I guess we will just have to see what she brings to the table, yeah. Either way, I'm sure it'll be great.

That's actually a really interesting way to see it. Her going back to mostly The Fame-era aesthetics, and then some The Fame Monster-aesthetics, and then  a little bit of Born This Way-aesthetics, seemed very much like fan-service to make up for her initial blackout.

I know it was all supposed to be some metaphor tributing the "art behind the image", but lowkey it got lost along the way.

I definitely agree that she had big and intricate concepts for the overall presence of the album. Obviously, that also got lost along the way.
