I think her vocals improved so much during ARTPOP Era. I never watch performances before that cause i know they’re kinda bad or just ok. Slay ARTPOP. :queenga:

A lot of performances from The Fame era are a mess... Her voice was very raspy because of drugs, she was singing over the studio version...

I agree. Honestly when she first came out, I didn’t think she could sing. I definitely loved her but thought she was vocally weak. It wasn’t until paparazzi vma 2009 that I realized I was wrong

I get what you mean, I don't totally disagree.

I think her voice pre-Fame was really good, really energetic, there was place for improvement but there was a lot of potential, and she still sounded better than a lot of singers.

Then she took drugs, smoked and drank a lot, and you can see the damage it did to her voice during The Fame, as I said precedently. This raspy tone was interesting during acoustic performances though, it gave her a really cool vibe.
Her voice started recovering during The Fame Monster era, her voice is lighter and less raspy but still very weak. Overall, I don't enjoy her vocals during this period. Everyone mentions her Bad Romance performance at Ellen but it's very clear that her voice is weak and lacks power and energy.

She started regaining her powerful voice between TFM and BTW (the acapella of Born this Way in the backstage of TMBT is amazing !). I think that her voice was too high-pitched and lacked depth and darkness until at least the BTWB, but maybe it's just my taste.

So I join you when you say that her voice really started sounding good during ARTPOP. You can hear everything in her voice, from dark and husky notes (Dope) to light and airy (ARTPOP, Sexxx Dreams). And it became better and better after that. When you compare The Lady is a Tramp to her songs in Cheek to Cheek, there's no denial !

I think she had some health problems during the performance, cause she couldn't do anything and barely finished it lying on the ground.

Agreed. Though i gotta say the vocals during BTW are not comparable to ARTPOP vocals at all.

Yeah, there was a combination of factors that played into this. She was extremely overworked. She was starving herself to stay extremely skinny. And to top it off the arena too hot, which also caused some of the audience members to faint. She had been having problems all the way through that tour night.

It also can't be denied that alcohol and drugs might've been a big issue for her back then, as it was the peak of her popularity and probably also an extremely difficult time for her mentally.

She also stated in an interview a little later that she had been tested for lupus. She claimed to be "borderline" lupus, but we never really heard anything about it after that.
