But if you watch it along with the editing and the flashing, it all conveys that feeling. Like I said, you can dislike it, but as Gaga has done this technique in no other video of hers, it’s safe to say that this was wholly intentional on the part of her and Ruth.

Well you are right about that I guess. Ruth can do much better though

Oh without a doubt. But alas, such was Gaga’s vision and I think as we saw in 5F2, she really was willing to acquiesce a lot to Gaga’s vision. I hope she keeps working with Ruth because her stylized work is beautiful. It’s no wonder Nick Knight likes her.

exactly, they literally pulled it out of the bag for the JWT interludes and somehow we ended up with the MR mv :neyde:

something must have gone wrong BTS, maybe a hard drive with the original video broke :madge:

That is what I thought but the perfect illusion has so much art and thought put into it. It is less over the top but the messages and symbols in the videos are meticulously choreographed.

The word choreography should be no where near the words "Perfect Illusion" :triggered:

I personally hated Wolf of Wallstreet because it was paced in such a way to mimic a narrative adrenaline rush and then a steep drop off (like drugs). Still, I appreciate the work that went into  crafting the movie just so so as to give audiences that experience. It’s really creative and interesting.

I’m not directly comparing the two works, but I just mean to say that editing and camerawork are used to create effects both good and bad for the audience. How much you enjoy it is another matter, but whether it was successful or not depends on whether or not they achieved their goal of making you *feel* something based on those decisions they made.

Literally all of this. I always said Perfect Illusion is a masterpiece of a video for simulating the feeling of being ****ed up (:poot:) so perfectly. Honestly I couldn't think of a way PI could be better. The messages/symbols/camera work is all excellent. Also John Wayne is amazing :neyde:

The Louvre

PI > every BTW era video

It really is one of my favourites.

It's said the map of the world is on you. The moon gravitates around you. The seasons escape you.

i'm shaking, i thought i was alone in recognising why this made PI an amazing video

everyone just says "buT ItS SO FlasHY" and thinks it's awful and lacks story and can't be a good video cus it doesn't have a basic pop dance routine :grr:

Gaga's videography declined since Joanne. John Wayne is the only legit music video we received this era that is on par with her previous level of music videos quality. Perfect Illusion was promising and could have been better. I love how chaotic it was and the turbulent camera working and dancing throughout the video matched the atmosphere of the song. The scenes were too repetitive and Gaga could have told a story. PI video is decent at best Million Reasons was bland. Joanne music video will probably be an okay video. I sort of expect it to be similar to Million Reasons video. Gaga does not know how to create an interesting story and captivating visual for ballads.

I understand what you are trying to say, and I totally respect it, but I am not quite sure if the vision she intended properly translated to what we got. The video to me seems like something they would play on monitors in a club while they play the song, but not something I would want to sit at home and watch.

The video doesn't seem meant for just regular viewing.

This I agree with but that's what makes it special to me lmaoo I watch the PI video when I want to get hyped and her energy, the songs energy, and the flashes are just EVERYTHINGGGG. Lights off, music UP, and putting that music video on my TV is the greatest

Oh yeah whether the execution was wholly successful or not is up for debate. I’m just saying that the intention behind the techniques was not random or a mark of poor vision. She definitely had a vision in mind for the video. If anything, I think playing it in a club would enhance the effect she’s going for. Is it as effective on YouTube? Not as much, but I just mean that you can’t deny the effect she was pursuing. Thank you for not being rude in your contrary response :)
