So since 2014, every New Year's Eve & New Year's Day, I choose 2 of my favorite songs (preferably your top two picks of the year) from the current year & listen to one as a farewell to the old year, and the other as an introduction to the new year! For example: one song is played on December 31 (doesn't matter what time of the day, as long as it's the final song you've heard that year) as an ending of 2017, while the other song is played on January 1 (same thing regarding time of day applies here as well) as the beginning of 2018. The reason why I do this is to set the mood for the year to come! While said song may not represent the year completely, it's a good way to end the past, and kick off the future! I always make sure that these songs are the last/first songs of both years, or else the whole meaning behind it all is ruined for me. I've been doing this since January 1st, 2014, and I plan on continuing it this year and forward! Now here are the rules I made for myself: - Both songs have had to be released within the year or else they're not valid (ex: Look What You Made Me Do was released in 2017, so that would be eligible / Blank Space was not released in 2017... it came out in 2014, so this song would be ineligible.) (The reason for this is because I want something to properly represent the year... and what better to do that than a song from that year? ) - (Optional) Listen to the songs with headphones for better quality. Spoiler January 1 2014: Applause - Lady Gaga December 31 2014: Love Me Harder - Ariana Grande, The Weeknd --------------- January 1 2015: The Night Is Still Young - Nicki Minaj December 31 2015: Living For Love - Madonna (at the time, I thought this would be a great closer ) --------------- January 1 2016: Revival - Selena Gomez December 31 2016: Kiss It Better - Rihanna --------------- January 1 2017: Million Reasons - Lady Gaga (only artist to be here twice by the way) December 31 2017: TBA --------------- Usually, I start gathering songs that I think could end / start the year well around the beginning of December, but I go into full "musical maniac" mode once Christmas passes, because there's less than a week left. So far, I have narrowed my list down to about 13 - 17 songs per category that could either end 2017 or start 2018! I am starting the year at the absolute bottom, so at the end of 2018 I can say, I improved dramatically during the year.
