Non country genres ignored on Joanne

I feel like everyone is too focused on the whole "Joanne is a country album" thing, that other non country genres in Joanne are ignored. Joanne is packed with different musical genres that range from rock to dance pop. For example A-Yo and Dancing in circles  have Bollywood influences. John Wayne and Diamond Heart have an alternative rock sound. Joanne the song is more of a folk song than a country song. Perfect illusion is a disco-rock song. Come To Mama and Just Another day have retro glam sound. And Hey Girl is a modern take on a soul song. In fact there are only about 4 songs in Joanne that can be considered country. And even these country songs are full of dance pop influences.

Yes Yes Yes YAAASS  I hate when they say Joanne is a country record just like when they say Born This Way is about gays only when it’s not.

This is probably my biggest gripe about the entire era and the way it was promoted :flop:

Sinner's Prayer is the only true country track on the album, the rest on more in line with folk and alternative pop :flop:

But I melted down about it last fall when I had a suspicion that was how the album was going to be marketed and viewed as, so I'm all out of it now :flop:

It is what it is tbqh. Still love Joanne :flop:

REALITY

I 100% agree. I believe that people stressed and dramatized the fact that Joanne is a "country" album when in reality it's not. I guess the reason why is because aesthetically, it did seem fairly "country." Joanne is very eclectic in terms of sound, and I find that amazing. It's a cohesive piece of work, yet it showcases Gaga's ability to be versatile in her music.

To be fair she did promote the album like she was an alternative country singer, from doing dive bar shows to wearing cowboy hats and boots 99% of the time.

But even those outfits had rock and pop aesthetics just like the album.

That happened because Million Reasons era was almost as long as Joanne era :flop: PI had a different look (non-country) so other singles would have different looks. Imagine Hey Girl single looks :flutter:

You guys can’t deny the visuals had a more prominent country influence, and it’s the main reason why people often call Joanne a country (pop) inspired album, rather than pop rock or alternative rock.

imo most people viewed it as a country album cuz of the cowboy hat and the country inspired aesthetic of the whole era.

Anybody who actually listens to country knows Joanne is not a country album.   :rip:

Sinner's Prayer is the only thing close enough to being country to pass.   :flop:

I'm talkin' 'bout forever, baby.

Then the problem comes from the people not focusing on the album itself.

People ignores the 80s disco-rock on PI and DH, The weird John Wayne sound, The Pop/Jazz sound on CTM, the Funky sound on JAD and the Alternative...? vibe of Hey Girl.

Sorry If I missed something else

But it was Gaga who decided the album main aesthetic :awkney: I don’t think she put on her pink cowboy hat and boots and said “I feel so alternative rock”

She wanted people associating the album with country influences rather than any other genre.

I’m not saying Joanne is an one-genre album, as every other of her albums it’s an eclectic body of work. But it’s obvious that SHE wanted that people focused on the country influences several tracks on the album has.
