In a statement, External Affairs Secretary Fiona Hyslop did not explicitly recognise Catalonia as an independent state. But she said the people of Catalonia "must have the ability to determine their own future". And she called for a "process of dialogue" to resolve the crisis. Maybe the Italian city-states, but then there are others like Lesotho. Catalonia might be richer as its own country, but not all small states would be better off economically. Neroneau 1,017 Posted October 27, 2017 Share Posted October 27, 2017 ugh Puidgemont is a bloody dictator, the referendum had barely a 43% turnout, even he recognises that, parliament 'unilaterally' voted for independence when more than half of it had boycotted the ballot. If turnout had been like 80%, and all MPs had voted to spit from Spain, then yeah, it's legitimate, whether Spain likes it or not. But this now, is just ridiculous and petty. Meh... theres wealthy large and small Countries just as there are poor large and small Countries more smaller Nations just means more trade barriers, less mobility etc I dont think economically as a whole its not better to be adding more Nations Also it might actually add to wealth inequality gap because at least regions in the same Country help even out the wealth from richer parts of each Nation Link to post Share on other sites More sharing options...
