No, what happened to the Jews in ww2 was sad and tragic by all means, and I believe it happened.

But I won’t sit here criticizing dictatorships countries law when this is basically the same mentality but different conversation.

And if you believe jailing this old woman is right then that conflicts with “liberal” ideology and you’re a hypocrite. Period.

1996 actually.

Liberalism does not mean that people have the freedom to do whatever they want.

In this case, criminals would be free. I can also say that we should kill people because they’re black for example. Is this true? Why shouldn’t she be jailed? She’s not saying she believes the earth is flat. She supports the Nazi.

Germany has a special relationship to it. It's illegal to deny the Holocaust because it happened. It teared down and eliminated a whole ethnic group in Europe. You can't compare that to law in Saudi Arabia for example.

I see, although I don’t agree it’s the right way but it’s understandable. Thanks for the relevant and civil response.

There is a reason why it's illegal to publish lies as if they are truth. Just saying racist **** to your friends and family and randoms on the street is one thing, but actually publishing lies and purveying them in the news as if they are equally valid as the truth, and pitching them to the legislation in an attempt to invoke racist changes, could become really harmful and result in the start of a movement or the passing of legislation based in a false reality. What she is doing is libelous and deceitful and goes beyond simply "expressing an opinion."

Nowhere in the article does it say that she supports Nazis though? :oprah:

I believe that if she’s not hurting someone with her beliefs or having an actual impact on anyone’s life, then let her be, it’s not like she has long to live anyway.

I think she knows what she’s getting herself into and she’s doing it willingly. True freedom of speech doesn’t exist and I think she’s aware of that. At least based on her picture in court.

I think despite her ridiculous beliefs, it’s noble of her to stand up for what she believes despite her age and the consequences that this entails.

So in a way, maybe it’s better for her to be a martyr in her mind and face punishment, instead of betraying her beliefs.

I think the lady is full of hate, but I’m conflicted on whether or not I think she should be jailed. Western society shouldn’t have any room for bigotry. She’s 88 though, can’t she just chill out and stop her hateful rhetoric. :spin:

The point is that she's doing a propaganda and trying to convinced people that the Holocaust didn't happen, which can lead to a strong nationalism in the people she's lecturing to.

Germany is a very delicate country, the Nazism is still existing there and a bit strong I may say, so to protect everyone in and out of Germany, they need to do everything to eliminate it.. if not, in the near future a new Nazi government can rise..

Haverbeck and her late husband Werner Georg Haverbeck, who was an active NSDAP member in the run-up to and during World War II, founded a right-wing education center called Collegium Humanum, which has been banned since 2008.

She has written for the right-wing magazine Stimme des Reiches (Voice of the Empire), in which she also denied the existence of the Holocaust.

How is it, that in defense for her the part that she's old is stressed. Is one above the law, when one gets old? :oprah:

She does though. You know how offensive this is for the survivors of the holocaust?

What’s stupid is jailing an 88 years old woman for her own belief

It's stops being a belief when there's evidential proof i.e. 6 million Jews that were slaughtered over a few years 😑

Look at it this way, she’s jailed for spreading FAKE NEWS. Very dangerous fake news in a country, which cannot allow the history to repeat itself.

It wasn’t just her “beliefs”.

Also she’s 88 and that number is a Nazi symbol, so it’s quite fitting, she can rot at that age in prison until she meets her Führer. :nails:

She’s not jailed for being a Nazi. She’s being jailed for being a wildly outspoken Holocaust denier. These are two different things.

Should Nazism be eliminated? Idk, i don’t really care, seeing as it’s a dead ideology anyway that doesn’t make much sense in our current social climate. One of the only few applicable ideas of nazism for today’s society would be its racist component, and if u ask me if we should eliminate racism, then yeah, I agree. That’d be great.

She’s clearly a martyr in her own head, and maybe a little bit crazy too. If she wants to die fighting for what she believes in, that’s a noble thing, regardless of the fact that she’s really really wrong.
