bumblebee 2,528
12 minutes ago, CrazyMonster said: Lmao don't get me wrong I LOVE Lana, I worship her but you're wrong. Yeah her "influence", I'd rather it call it "impact" or whatever lmao was definitely short, it lasted like 4 or 6 months in 2013. It would be absolutely ok even if you couldn't stand her, I'm always open to discussion and I'd be more than happy to listen to your arguements. 1) She is fresh. She doesn't have a Disney/Nickelodeon or any other channel to give her a platform of fans, she is not a blogger turned singer, she hasn't been in a band before starting solo career, she hasn't come to pop from any other genre, carrying massive army of maturing fans with her. 2) Her debut was commercially big and global. Born To Die had amazing opening week sales in the UK, eventually selling 700,000 copies by the end of 2012 alone (Born This Way sold 989,000 copies in the UK). She went at least platinum in the USA, Canada, France, Germany, Australia, Italy, Spain and Brazil. By 2015, she was the most streamed US female artist. 3) She is loved by ciritcs, earning a spot in the year-end lists by the likes of NME, Rolling Stone, Billboard and Spin 4) She has had an insane influence in the Internet, igniting the image of Lolita girl, Twin Peaks rural vibe, troubled child, drugs, tortured and unlovable romance and obsessive relationship in the age of wokeness, Instagram positiveness and Facebook sharing and liking. Half the tumblr survives on p*rn, another half on her lyrics quotes. 5) Born To Die is the longevity queen, spending over 280 weeks on Billboard 200 chart. It's close to the top 20 albums with the longest chart run in Billboard history. In January it was seated between Led Zeppelin, Eminem, AC/DC and Michael Jackson. She hasn't had the same instant flash of an impact on pop culture like Gaga, I wouldn't argue. But the thing is: streamig can no longer permit the pop culture exist in the same way it did before. With the ability to customize your content as high as never before, the pop culture the way we knew it is vanishing to make way for something new. In 2009, a lot of people used to watch the VMAs. In 2012, more people would check the VMAs highlights on Youtube. In 2017, people only care about VMAs if there are jokes and memes which they can't understand without knowing about the VMAs and also they do care if the VMA buzz is in their SM feed. Nobody watches the actual bloody show except for maybe the teens, thus turning it into a parody of Teen Choice Awards. MTV could be edgy in 1990s, it could still be edgy in 2010s when showing Alejandro in daytime, but today you can put any sort of video on Youtube, just mark it as 18+ if it's explicit. MTV is loosing value. The charts are now measuring not the sales and radio plays of our songs, but the number of times we press on "stream/play" while cleaning the house, driving, making love, jogging. The old pop culture is dead, and long live the new pop culture. Lana was the part of that massive change. She was the younger way of saying "I could be cool and relevant without the single Billboard Hot 100 top ten hit, and I'll have that hit when my label remixes my old song for coins and send it to the radio when my better song is played in the movie everybody went to watch so that even more people learned my name". Gaga was like fire that lit the torch, Lana is more like the shadow of the torch on the wall, but the shadow could tell us a lot about the light
Stephen 30,432
Iconic? Let's be honest these are the most iconic since Gaga. Not saying if I enjoy them or not but its just a fact of pop culture

Chromatic 12,177
None of the listed, lmao. What made Gaga succesful? That she managed to break the then current pattern of pop, and **** up the music industry. I think that artist is someone we don't know of yet. Keep in mind, I'm not saying the others are bad artists, but they're all in the same lane musically. I won't be remembering them, the same way I'll remember Gaga in 20 years. Smother Em Eh 7,154
Miley! Like Gaga she is indeed full of controversy. She is always evolving with her sound. She always keeps it interesting with her videography, music, and Fashion. She is way more iconic than Taylor, Selena, Ariana, Femi etc. And she knows how to be the talk of the night. The new generation is quite boring to me. Miley is very talented and impactful but she was in this business way before Gaga I think What about Beyoncé? And Katy is too generic to be considered iconic in my opinion. Get Applause & G.U.Y to 1B views!
