Fey 0
5 / 10 Overrated. Spoilers ahead. I will admit, it was better than I thought it would be, though I really think this would be much better as a stand-alone book/film. The things that happen in this book because they are important later on in the trilogy are just Gale is the most pointless character, and really just feels like he was thrown in here for the purposes of creating a love triangle. Rue's death was so over-dramatized, which I hated because I really didn't give two ****s about her since she was barely in the movie. I also don't understand the riot that happened in District 11 following her death, which, if I recall are important later on in the series. So in 74 years, not a single parent/family or anyone got pissed that kids are being killed for no reason before now? Hm. The shaking camera was so damn annoying. When the Games started and they were all running, I had no clue what was happening. It seemed very obvious that they did it this way to avoid an R rating, which would be inevitable if they did this scene as according to the book (though it still shocks me that a movie about kids brutally murdering each other is PG-13). During the scene where Katniss was fighting that girl, once again I had zero idea what was happening. And again during the final battle, I had no idea who was fighting who (and it didn't help that Peeta and that other guy looked almost exactly the same - I, at first, couldn't even tell who had who in a head lock). I didn't mind the first hourish though. It wasn't until when Rue came along and died where I felt the movie went downhill fast. I agree with what critics have said, that the story/movie has a good concept, but is just executed badly. I feel that this story would have been done better in the hands of a better author (but that's criticism for the book :P ). I also saw V For Vendetta recently, which is also about a dystopian future, and it captured me and moved me and made me think a lot more than this movie. So this movie just felt very juvenile and inferior is comparison. So yeah, my thoughts on the film, basically.
