calmar 22,768 Posted September 8, 2017 Share Posted September 8, 2017 My parents just passed the intersection of I-75 and I-10 and my mother is reporting fighting breaking out at gas stations in Lake City; they only just now got their car filled up for the trip into Georgia. Cat 5 is not expected but cannot be discounted It is currently about 610 miles east south east of the island of barbuda. This could be a complete disaster for the islands of barbuda, st martin, anguilla and st barths which were already devastated by Hurricane Irma. These islands are in the cone of uncertainty but a direct landfall is not expected, however they will definetely feel a lot of the effects of this storm and I shudder at the though of that. The storm will soon make a significant turn to the north and a later turn to the east. Most models are in agreement that there won't be US impacts Hurricane Katia Hurricane Katia is currently a top of the range cat 2 hurricane at about 100 miles of the coast of mexico. There is a possibility of it reaching cat 3 status right before landfall. Fortunately it is expected to make landfall on a not so populated area of Mexico. HOWEVER the storm or its remnants have the possibilty to bring extreme rainfall to the densely populated Mexico City area (Basically my whole family lives there ) There is a significant risk of flooding and mudslides as this is expected to be a major rainfall event across central Mexico.
