How great that Gaga is pretty much guaranteed a UK number one. Thank god they chose to release on a sensible day. Hopefully it can have longevity though, I'm ready for the UK to fall back in love with her.

oh yes. Also, with the massive exposure and media attention Gaga will get with the iTunes Festival, the longevity of the single will be nice to observe.

Is it confirmed to be a worldwide release? You know what record labels here are like; we'll probs get it in December

It has to be, I can't understand why it wouldn't. That does tend to happen but with well established artists the lead singles are almost always worldwide releases, aren't they? I mean BTW came on the same day and that was a bloody Friday :toofunny:

I'm still puzzled as to how BTW only peaked at #3? I understand it was released on a bad day, but figured it would have held the top spot longer. Did it really drop that fast after release?

It stayed 6 weeks in the top 10 and went to #4 in it's third week I think

Born This Way actually sold as much as Telephone (650k or so) and people think it under-performed only because it peaked at #3 (and not #1)

Hmm interesting... I guess I'm just confused because it was #1 on iTunes in the US for 6 weeks, but it sounds like it was only #1 on iTunes in the UK for a handful of days. Kind of sad, really :noparty:

Jase, can you upload the current sales anytime soon? It feels like its been a long time since we've had an update.

UK charts act quick and fast. Songs get jack rabbit starts on iTunes and look like they're going to be big hits...and then fall and fall, so they're nothing within a week. Having a much smaller population and always being thirsty for new music means most songs don't really have their moment. That's why we obsess so much over when Gaga releases her single. It has to be perfectly timed or it won't be a #1 here. If she had released BTW on a Monday (or Sunday), it would've definitely been #1 and given her one UK #1 for that era and that's so frustrating (but hey, it went #1 in Scotland!). I have do doubt that her new single date was planned with military precision to ensure this travesty never happens again.

I'm still puzzled as to how BTW only peaked at #3? I understand it was released on a bad day, but figured it would have held the top spot longer. Did it really drop that fast after release?

BTW's first week was a day and half of sales. Even if she'd had Wed-Sat that week, she's be #1

The next week it was headed for #1, until Adele and Jessie J both got BRITS promo. While the Grammies helped Gaga in the US, the British artists she was competing with got the promo boost from the BRITS. That was the start of Adelemania.

A hater couldn't have picked a less optimal release date for UK #1.
