UK Charts Discussion - Track "Applause" here!

The lesson from Bieber, Madonna, Nicki, and Cheryl regarding the UK market is - if you're doing a spring release, you gotta keep the momentum going into the holiday sales period, or you're #1-#2 album won't amount to jack squat in the end of year sales.

On the other hand, Xtina and Kesha show the danger of getting totally overwhelmed and buried releasing in the busiest time of year.

DAMN. Justin only sold 141,700 copies (even Alicia sold more than him and her album's only been out a month and she has very little promotion these days). I never knew it was that bad, I thought he'd be 300,000 or something. OD have definitely overtaken him in the UK. Lol at Nicki barely selling over 242,000 - Gaga sold more than that in the first two weeks of release and Nicki's had 9 months. It's amazing to think Kylie's sold more copies of a re-imagining orchestral album than Madonna's sold of her new studio album. Pretty shocking that Girls Aloud have only sold 132,500 copies of their greatest hits album considering that the band is hotly tipped to split after this. They've got 21 tour dates to sell out that will cater for far more people than the ones who bought the album....oh dear. Gaga has done very well for an album that wasn't a big hit in the UK. Most artists debut on the UK charts with less than 118,700 and that's how many she sold for a moderately successful album that's a year old. Hopefully, ARTPOP will take her over the 1 million mark.

By the way, what are Cheryl Cole's and Tulisa's sales? Are they so bad that they couldn't even be printed?

So u think BTW isn't going to cross the 1 million mark? I'm pretty sure it will cross it this year. Only 60,000 copies, Gaga can pull it off!

Ellie is suffering from 2nd album syndrome. Not as bad as Mika or Duffy or Pixie Lott, but a lot artists get a big push and are the flavour of the year in the UK, then struggle.

Ellie has surged into top 5 this week, so Halycon ain't dead yet.

Jesus Christ on a cracker. I hope this gives them the hint that they shouldn't waste the money on making another album and wake up from their dreams of making it in America.

Two of the longest Platinum streaks in UK pop bit the dust.

Madonna was 11/11 in reaching UK Plat with her studio albums, until MDNA.

Every Girls Aloud or Cheryl album made it too, before 2012.

Well Cherly's sales aren't THAT bad, compared to Tulisa. Isn't 100k = certification silver? (So we can compare it to 500k in the USA = gold).
