Good point. This is the biggest promo they get all year. As far as I've seen, Rihanna doesn't even sing when she does promo on talk shows. Def Jam always pimp her out on this show, now moreso than ever as her new album isn't public friendly, isn't charting well internationally and she needs all the promo she can get. I assume she'll be singing Stay as it's the next single, but it won't be released until January, so it's pretty pointless. She usually releases two singles before an album, but this new marketing stategy might backfire as all her fans will already have the album after just one single. It always annoys me how Rihanna can get #1's without even trying and I don't want her to keep on doing that from now on. She's reportedly being made not to release a new album in 2013 (which means Gaga will be safe) because Def Jam want to use that time to launch Rita Ora in the US. This means she won't be performing on XF next year. And I hope a break will cause the public to forget about her again, a la Rated R.

I hear Emili Sande and Kylie are also performing.

Emili is more flavour of the moment than Rihanna right now, and maybe Kylie can out-class her.

Gotye's 'Somebody That I Used To Know' named 2012's biggest-selling single

GotyePR160212.jpg

Gotye's hit track 'Somebody That I Used To Know' has been named the UK's biggest-selling single of 2012 so far.

According to the Official Charts Company, the song, which features New Zealand singer Kimbra, has sold 1.28million copies since it entered the UK Singles chart at Number One in February.

Carly Rae Jepsen is the second biggest-selling single of 2012 with her track 'Call Me Maybe'. FUN's 'We Are Young', which featured singer Janelle Monae, is at Number Three, David Guetta's 'Titanium' is at Number Four and Nicki Minaj's 'Starships' takes the Number Five spot.

'Somebody That I Used To Know' is one of just 123 song to have scored over a million sales in the 60-year Official UK Chart history. All top three tracks are also 2012's most played songs around the world on Spotify.

However, the Official Charts Company could not confirm that the Top 5 will remain unchanged as December is traditionally a month in which record breaking sales occur. This year, there are still potential chart-topping releases to come from the X Factor winner and the Hillsborough Charity single, which features Paul McCartney.

Last year's biggest-selling single was awarded to Adele for her chart-topping hit 'Someone Like You'.

The Top 10 biggest-selling UK Singles of 2012 are as follows:

1. Gotye ft. Kimbra - 'Somebody That I Used To Know'

2. Carly Rae Jespen - 'Call Me Maybe'

3.Fun. ft. Janelle Monae - 'We Are Young'

4. Davd Guetta ft. Sia - 'Titanium'

5. Nicki Minaj - 'Starships'

6. Jessie J - 'Domino'

7. Maroon 5 ft. Wiz Khalifa - 'Payphone'

8. Flo Rida ft. Sia - 'Wild Ones'

9. Psy - 'Gangnam Style'

Gaby Aplin at #01, Olly down to #02, Bruno #03

Tulisa's single @ #12 and her album #22

She needs to call it a day, nobody likes her, clearly.

--------------

In other news, Rita Ora ( :pukey: :pukey:) and Kelly Clarkson () have been confirmed as performers on the X-Factor at the weekend.

StrawberryBlond

Is Gabrielle getting this #1? Or does Bruno have more mileage after being #2 last week?

News just in that Tulisa's album is #17 in the midweeks and has only sold 9,000 copies so far. That's even worse than I expected. Makes all her talk about: "I don't care about #1, I just want to go platinum" 10x more hilarious.
