This is literally a unique re-telling of romeo and juliet but it's not even just romeo and juliet. Clearly some of y'all like to just take things for face value. The visuals are inspired by Baz Lurhman's Romeo and Juliet ofc but the actual story itself is more inspired by Orpheus and Eurydice. And it has it's own twists. The hopeless fountain kingdom is a purgatory between heaven and hell and it focuses on classism (the feud between the Aureum and Angelus houses - one being lower class and the latter high class), and it introduces a secret-order element to its plot (the militant/rebelliance NOSTRAS group with the bird masks and tarot cards). There is an actual mythology behind the term"hopeless fountain kingdom' which is a prophecy that revloves around a fountain in the kingdom that contains two coi fish - symbolic of the characters Luna and Solis, who have chased each other hopelessly for all eternity. It's not just a metaphor for two lovers who cannot be one but also mental illness and the feeling of hopelessness that comes with it. There's so many layers to this and y'all just see "romeo and juliet. done before. next."
