The idea of killing the 'leader' of ISIS of course sounds like a solution... but it's a very romanticised, short-sighted form of defence. In truth, you cannot kill an ideology. You may be able to kill the people who manifest it, but the ideology will still exist. And it will only continue to manifest in others. The way forward is a more 'left realist' approach to terrorism and extremism - particularly in terms of it's presence in the Western world. Prisons need reforming; mental health orders concerning those vulnerable to extremism need to be introduced; school's and community officers need to be better trained in the prevention of radicalisation. These societal changes will be far more effective, in my opinion at least, in shifting the thought process of 'we need to kill terrorists' to 'we need to stop people becoming terrorists'. The journey a potentially vulnerable, isolated and societally marginalised individual must undertake before being utterly brainwashed into believing in terrorism must be interfered. It must be stopped. It falls on us (again, in terms of home-grown terrorism at least) to do that - the governments have to take a different approach. You kill the ideology and you disrupt it's journey - you don't heighten the tension by killing these people.
