Italy bans burqas in schools

The Italian government has approved a ban on the burqa and niqab in schools, along with a limit on the share of pupils who speak little Italian in any one class. 

The Prime Minister described the measures as "common-sense tools that do not divide but really help to integrate".

Education Minister Giuseppe Valditara has said the limit is "purely linguistic" rather than one of citizenship, while he has sought to frame the ban on the niqab and burqa as a matter of gender equality.

"You must go to school with your face uncovered," Meloni said while announcing the plans on Sunday, adding that no-one could decide that a young woman should hide herself in the name of tradition.

I still genuinely do not see nor understand the dislike or need to get rid of burqas or hijabs beyond racism. Like ban face masks, balaclavas and wimples/habits too.

Okay sure, im not against it, but nobody wears Burqas in schools, so this is clearly finding loopholes to target Muslims.

It was like when people were complaining about Sharia Law in the UK when it’s not legally recognised and is only currently used to allow Muslims to divorce correctly by their religion/culture. But they still need to go through a real divorce proceeding as recognised but the government as well.

Italy is a big Country tho. Do any of the larger cities that may have more diversity have any?

whoa i didn’t know this!

when I worked part-time in an italian school I was so shocked to find a giant gelato machine in a random hallway 😂  the kids are actually incredibly privileged so to speak.
