You better not go to Saskatchewan, Manitoba, British Columbia, Alberta, the Northwest Territories, Nunavut, and the Yukon, because they all have a higher murder rate than Idaho, Utah, Massachusetts, Maine, Vermont, or New Hampshire:nails:

A whole bunch of countries in South America disagree with you!

That's using one organization's broad definition. How you define a mass shooting impacts how many there are. As the old saying goes, 'lies, damned lies, and statistics'.

I prefer Mother Jones' definition. It better fits what most people think of when they hear the term 'mass shooting'. Under Mother Jones' definition, their have been only FOUR mass shootings in the United States in 2017.

"The Gun Violence Archive defines mass shootings as incidents in which four or more people are shot (injured or killed) in a single event, at the same general time and location, not including the shooter.

Other sources like Mother Jones use a narrower definition. To be considered a mass shooting under the outlet’s guidelines, the perpetrator, or in rare cases perpetrators, must kill at least four people in a single location, usually a public place. Mother Jones also excludes most crimes that are primarily related to gang activity, armed robbery or domestic violence. Using their definition, there have been four mass shootings so far this year. Wednesday’s incidents are not among them."

It's less now than perhaps ever before, but media gives the opposite perception:

I'm not talking about individual states vs. individual provinces, I'm talking about countries as a whole. And just for the record, I excused the east coast of the states from my assessment.

As for the "countries in South America that disagree with me" - is that who you want to be compared to? Lol ****. I actually can't believe American's downplay how violent and ****ing psychotic their society is. I feel so bad for you. You don't HAVE to live like that, you know.

Ironically, the provinces that you listed are (for the most part) provinces most likely to vote Republican lol.

A problem with guys?

It's a reality for a majority of people who don't own guns for hunting, protection or sport.

I never said there isn't a problem at all, just that I don't feel unsafe...and neither do my family and friends.

It's a huge culture shock to go to any country, even one that is so close. I've been to Canada many times and it's not that different from the US. Everything isn't as nice, fancy, etc. and tv sucks...and stuff costs way more...but other than that, it's pretty similar.

Aggressive and hostile? Yeah...I don't get that any I've been all over the US. Drivers are kind of crazy in certain parts of the country, like NYC, but I've experienced way scarier driving situations in Europe! Lol

I typed a bunch of stuff to respond to this with but honestly you're a lost cause. Enjoy your good TV and million dollar health care bills and hate.

Nationalism is a funny thing. We have a gun problem, yes. But calling us disgusting isn't going to do much, is it?

Well, it is disgusting. All of those murders and mass shootings and the gun violence... that's disgusting. The fact that so many people are vehemently against ANY form of gun control, that is deplorable. The mentality behind it is terrifying. The "I need a gun to be safe" mentality actually perpetuates the gun problem. It's sickening, really.

Ok well not every American is like that.... :selena:

The way you are speaking to people on this thread is almost attacking them individually for a problem that is bigger than the individual.

I do enjoy my tv and I have excellent health care, and my tax rate and cost of living isn't sky high. I'm not the one hating here.

I live in a very conservative state and I don't believe I need a gun to be safe and I think we need action to control guns :gum:
