She was already nominated for Best Dance Recording for Just Dance in 2009 and so couldn't be nominated in 2010 for BNA, but the rules have actually changed since then because of her snub, allowing people to have a couple songs or even albums out before they can be nominated (see Meghan Trainor, Ed Sheeran etc.)

If I remember correctly there was like this weird rule that prevented her from being nominated one year but she was nominated the next but it wasn't considered debut?

She had been nominated for Best Dance Recording for Just Dance the year before that, so technically she wasn't a New Artist but they changed the rules later because of that. 

Now that I think about it, it's amazing that she even got nominated that time for her DEBUT single before she even went big.

It doesn't really make sense. They say she couldn't be nominated because just dance was nominated the year before. But why couldn't they just have nominated her for best new artist the same year just dance was originally nominated? 

Just seems rigged to me
