The chorus is literally THE SAME!!! The melody, the number of words pronounced in a single line, omg..

I think he's gonna win this one, it is too obvious!

Right?? Nearly everything about this is the same. I refuse to believe it's a coincidence.

I love judas SO MUCH but I canʹt look like a copycat of JLO!!!!

Not The Real Gaga

Can somebody post the links of the Sia / Ed case? I think I missed that one. Livin' for the drama! Music, not the bling!

That's literally straight up copying lol

Maybe he didn't do it on purpose? Like what would be the incentive to use blatantly copying if you know you're big enough to be noticed.

He should really start using Shazam while writing his songs. :ladyhaha:

The case has been settled out of court, so we don't know the exact amount paid by Ed, but seeing that Matt was seeking 20 million, he probably got something close to that.

That's not how settlements work. It could be anything (whatever both sides agree to). But it's almost certainly not close to $20 million.

Well, this was unexpected, I thought it was going to be Sia suing him. But here's the thing - I always find it highly suspicious when someone files a copyright lawsuit literally years after a song has been released. And when it's someone like Matt Cardle, you can't help but wonder if they aren't just looking to get back into the spotlight. It is truly very similar but at the end of the day, it's a generic acoustic guitar beat. There are probably other songs out there that are similar even though they had no intention in it. A lot of acoustic guitar songs sound the same. Which is why I can't understand why these types of artists keep getting signed because their sound is a dime a dozen, nothing stands out. Everything they make just sounds like rehashes of previous songs from artists like them.

Correct me if I'm wrong but she hasn't. People are saying she should. TLC have.

Obvious plagiarism is obvious. Yet he has the nerve to say everyone copies him.

Technically speaking, I think only the lyrics of Cheap Thrills belong to Sia. The melody or production, rather, belongs to Greg Kurstin, her producer. And he seems like a pretty chill guy so I doubt he would.

Why should Sia or Greg sue Ed?

I thought Sia was suing from the title

Well, because the production from Shape of You is uncannily similar to the production of Cheap Thrills. I'd be fine if Ed had given Greg production credit on the song but he has not. And I seriously doubt that he and Steve Mac just so happened to produce the same melody that Greg Kurstin had 1 year prior. And then there's the fact that Ed has the nerve to say people steal from him in terms of music but the reality is that he steals from others. Inspired or not, give credit where it is due.

Adoremus in caelum, Palutena. Dea luminis.
