The difference is that it's about female masturbation, and the examples that always pop up in these threads (LoveGame, Side to Side, Anaconda) are about regular old straight sex. It's more acceptable unfortunately.

I'm not a little chartster so if this became a single and we got a bomb ass video I would be happy with it, but I won't expect it to be a hit.

Ive tried to explain this a zillion times but no one is listening

they are putting all types of sexual content in the same category

its lke theyve forgotten how picky and critical the GP can be 👀

Your point of view isn't universal

I'm well aware of that thank you

But Gaga has tried weird/not mainstream sexual things before and it didn't go well.

Don't you remember the power bottoming single that failed? GUY? I doubt a song about female masturbation will do well on radio :awkney:

Spoiler

Also GUY is a farrr better song than overrated DIC so I doubt it'd do better

This is just my opinion

Just trying to speak my truth girl

THIS. It shouldn't be taboo, because it's a natural and healthy occurrence, but the topic of masturbation, especially for women, will have this stigma. It's not that it's sexual, it's that it's about very explicitly touching one's self.

Been a long time but I'm back in town, and this time I'm not leaving without you

I don't understand how people don't think DIC is radio friendly when in reality it's the most radio friendly sounding song on the album.

It's not too sexual to be a successful song. Just think about Rihanna's S&M and Rude Boy which were huge hits. Tove Lo's Talking Body was a hit. Ariana Grande's Side To Side, too. Can't think of more examples, but you know what I mean. DIC could smash if it was sent to radios and promoted with a video and live performances.

Well, Bruno Mars' 'The Lazy Song' was always played on the radio and it had lyrics like:

"Turn the TV on throw my hands in my pants" :poot:  whacha doing there Bruno?

"Meet a really nice girl, have some really nice sex and she's gonna scream out this is great"  :awkney:

There's no innuendos here, sooooooooo I don't want to hear "DIC is too sexual and she's not trying to be clever in hiding it" :lana:

Also who doesn't remember driving in the car with your fam and you hear "Sticks and stones may break my bones but chains and whips excite me:what:

Some of these responses are ridiculous and reaching for the ****ing moon. :saladga:

Yes, DIC might offend some sensibilities, but you people seriously act like it's My Neck, My Back or Magic Stick. :rip:

Love Myself wasn't a smash, but it did fine, and its lyrics seem worse (and lbr, no one sane wanted to hear the little girl from True Grit try to be sexy). The subject matter is whatever in this day & age.

In my opinion the issue is down to a sonic one. DIC sounds current, whereas AYO is almost corny sounding. The only thing that might make it seem "odd" is her stronger vocal delivery in the verses.
