Honestly, all we have is Sia and Maddie's Adventures, Katy and Cartoon Network, Beyonce and the stolen art and... Gaga when she feels like she's Gaga again..

Oh and there is Britney and her usual videos: starting with one of her products, going up or down the stairs and her dancers are posing sexy, she's doing some s&m like scene and then everybody is dancing again, there must be a scene where she's laughing and looks happy..

We are doomed.

So sploosh your juice all over me you Riverboy

The every day gp person doesn't really care about videos anymore. They'd rather just stream the song and listen to it.

I think streaming killed videos. And I think since American tv doesn't play music videos anymore no one cares.

This...just like "video killed the radio star," streaming killed the video star.

Sister

I feel the pain. I always love some music videos, this has been a favorite for me since I was a very small child.

Maybe ART is just uninspired these days, nothing tried and true that the industry can pull out for the time being. Perhaps we all need a Revelation.

The future's uncertain and the end is always near.

Even the early MTV days had more creative videos than today. You can tell that artists are becoming even more cheaper and lazier with their videos. Where's the choreography? Many times the videos just feel like a bunch of scenes pasted together with music playing over it. There's no editing, camerawork or choreography that flows together with the music. Even if there's little substance in the video, at least ramp up the style, serve some looks. But sinceย this isn't the 80s anymore, you can't seem to get away with unique fashion or design choices. And don't even get me started with videos from male artists, which has gotten more and more mundane and unsexy over the years. I hate to say this, but other than Lemonade, Taylor Swift was really the last major artist to serve actual interesting videos...

Iamamiwhoami released 3 visual albums (way before lemonade dropped) in the past years with stunning visuals and great cinematography. Now she's releasing stuff as Ionnalee and her lead single Samaritan has a great video (it's an amazing bop btw)

Artists still make great music videos, it's just the mainstream artists that don't care about MV's novadays i guess

Don't worry hennys when I establish myself as an artist I'll serve up videos to accompany my musicย that the GP will

Spoiler

hopefully

loveย :poot:ย I want to be the revelation that @Sisterย just said we needย :poot:

You may think I'm joking but these are really my aspirationsย :poot:ย a lot of today's musicย in this industry is arguably boring or uninspired. And many of you have said we're gonna need someone to SHOOK up the GP and all these arguablyย boring and uninspired artists/singers/producers... I see myself as that person unless someone beats me to itย :poot:ย and I have a LONG way to goย :poot:

I was kinda thinking more in awesome **** like this:

ย

ย

And i can keep going with some examples like:ย  Push it by Garbage, Purple by Crustation, Aphex Twins, Bjรถrk, Fiona Apple, Goldfrapp, Linkin Park, etc...

Hole!ย :giveup:ย If she decides to wade deeper into traditional rock trappings, she totally has an album like "Celebrity Skin" in her.ย

On topic: Generally speaking, recent music videos are there to sell the stream. They don't need to do more than create a vibe that resonates with howย you might enjoy the song in your real life, which is more than likelyย going to be via a streaming service. The question is (given that streaming is a reality), what cultural change would mean that popular music videos had to be grandly creative again? Because those Lamb and Kornย videos Martin Garrix posted are made by people who are obsessively creative in the particular field of music video production. They're visually dense and dark. They take so much effort to plan and execute.ย There was a time when the stigma against music video directors moving into feature films was that their obsession with design and sound/music interaction hurt their ability to tell a story. But then theirย efforts would be absorbed by Hollywood anyway, and become part of the texture of movies. That entire dynamic has basically disappeared. If music videos are going to hold the same attraction they used to, then creative people need to invest time, effort, and money in telling stories that can compress a movie-like experience into 5 minutes, and also offer new and risky things that feature films can absorb later.

Side note, in a REVERSE WACHOWSKIAN EXPEDITION,ย  Speed Racerย (2008)ย was a 2-hour volcanic eruption of new, risky things that ended up getting absorbed by music videos in the years to come... not the least of which was the incredible Telephone video.

Killa

my heart aches. Videos are not needed to promote music anymore, it seems like some people even prefer lyric videos so they know the words.

Even in the non-mainstream scene that hasn't been much innovation. Music videos might just be a thing of the past in some more yars

I feel like music videos aren't viewed as a big selling point anymore? It seems like artists make them to satisfy the notion that every single should have a video, not to actually provide visuals to the song and breath some life into it.ย
