And to cash in on those struggles just to win an award, that's not what this industry should be about.

you got the inside scoop that they just made the movie to win an oscar and not to tell a story? Wow I didn't know you knew the director of Moonlight.

I don't think it's about cashing in on those struggles. There were films that captured the war torn Middle East that were also nominated. Even at the Grammys, no one once thought Lemonade was exploiting black struggle to win big during award season. I don't see any basis in your argument, honestly. But maybe I'm missing something. (PS I'm not coming for you, just don't understand your point)

Those films deserved those nominations, and Beyonce's album makes a great statement about black struggles. Moonlight was just so blatantly Oscar-baity in its approach.

You mean a movie that took every generic Oscar trope (young, black, gay, poor, abusive parents, drug addiction), compiled it into one by-the books, blatant Oscar bait film vs. an unconventional story with a magical air that pays tribute to the classic musical films of the 50s?

Not surprised it won, but it was totally undeserved.

Moonlight deserved it. La La Land didn't have an unconventional story. It was an ambitious film made to impress Hollywood. The couple in Moonlight also didn't end up together, and they didn't even get their dreams. Moonlight had heart and La La Land is just style, not substance.

Sure it did. It was absolutely a deserving and important win.

I saw it, and it didn't. Why was it deserving and important? Simply because it showed a different viewpoint?

Take a moment to think of just flexibility, love, and trust~

Poor you for thinking about things in such a cynical and sad way. Comes off as very blatantly biased. :diane:

There's not a problem with the film, only with your outlook on life.

It's incredibly obvious. All this recent attention on black lives matters and the LGBT community...and here comes a generic film about the struggles of a black man in the LGBT community.

Was it a bad film? No. Did it deserve to win just because it deals with current social issues? No.

At least they had the decency to give it to the film that deserved it. Grammys you have some thinking to do.

I’m a simple guy to please, if you like Melodrama, we chill.

just read somewhere that an actor from Moonlight saw the envelope saying Moonlight won and got up on the stage to make the revelation. Which would make sense, because Warren Betty said he had the "Emma Stone" envelope, but then he showed the envelope saying "Moonlight" to the camera....

It almost looked like they were instructed to say La La land no matter what the envelope said.

A man came on stage and changed the envelopes you can see that clearly in the video, don't believe everything you read :ladyhaha:

It was based on a play written by a gay man who mirrored his own upbringing and it was directed by a black man that grew up in the same area and probably experienced some of the same things. I know you're hurt that La La Land lost but I don't get why you're so against this movie.

I feel so sorry for the La La Land cast and crew.

I'm just happy Emma Stone won.
