No. Voting against your kind does make you an Uncle Tom, and someone who needs to be made an example of and shunned. Especially when it's blatantly shooting yourself in the foot, like we witnessed here today. But I wouldn't expect a non-marginalized class to be capable of understanding.

No, it actually doesn't make you an Uncle Tom. To be an Uncle Tom you have to be subservient and eager to win over your oppressor. Voting against your own self interests in favor of issues which you feel are more important does not make you an Uncle Tom. Being a voter that is primarily motivated by issues facing national security, the economy, or our foreign policy over issues facing your own minority does not make you an Uncle Tom.

Dismissing an individual's beliefs based on what position on totem poll of social privilege they occupy is a toxic divisive trick that played a significant role in handing Donald Trump the election. I don't feel the need to broadcast my status as a marginalized individual so that bigots like yourself will give credence to my beliefs. It's a shame you learned nothing from this election.

The internal politics is the very least important aspect of this news item. This has very real implications for young transgender people.

Also, you're not right about that either. As someone who used to work in politics, I can tell you that any story that reinforces the narrative that internal disagreement is rampant in Trump's White House is not a good story - even if he gets his way in the end.

makes him look better in my view but of course there will be differing views since politics is changing rapidly, the old rules are out the window and predicting the real impact is muddled by the polarization of staunch partisanship. this is something that will charge his base which is how he won in the first place. his base supported him and they got him elected. this in my view furthers the perception among those who matter to his election, the base.

 

with trump, everyone focuses on what should happen but as we've seen, predicting how his actions are actually received isnt simple
