I mean can you actually even imagine today's youngsters being drawn to it? With it's loud powerful chorus and all it's guitar riffs? It might be able to be a hit in perhaps...2012-2014, but 2017? The mainstream sound has changed. If that tropical sound is really outdated, I don't see why people are still buying on to that...

There is a difference between the sound of the two, tropical house is a trend, a fad, we'll look back on and cringe, like many old musical trends. Funk is classic. was NickARTPOP

It was also like a bridge between the rockier stuff of the early 2010s and the disco sound of 2015. Other than that, nothing else sounds like Uptown Funk ever since. Only Bruno and Bruno himself can pull this off. 24K Magic was also built off of this novelty. However, 24K Magic wasn't as big, and the album did worse too. Because honestly, I could see many women listening to the chainsmokers and The Weekend. The general demographic I commented on is based on observation, but I'm sure you can find some concrete evidence somewhere? I believe the Spotify charts used to show male-to-female ratios among other things for certain songs. Not sure if that's still the case.

Frst of all, 2000's rock faded out long ago, it wasn't a thing in 2014 so it couldn't form a bridge, and disco wasn't a thing in 2015. 2) There have been a couple of funky songs since UF, such as Cake By The Ocean. But just because there isn't a major hit in a genre doesn't mean that people don't like it. 3) Obviously Gaga pulled off A-YO considering its acclaim 4) 24k Magic was a decent hit and 24k Magic (album) has done really really good. was NickARTPOP

If you look at 2015's charts, it's mainly hip hop and dance music, the latter which saw an increasing number of disco influence (one that is really hard not spot tbh...) 2) 'Funky' is the key word here. Is A-YO funky? Yes. Is it many other things too? Yes, and that's something you have to account for. Cake By The Ocean was a Disco song, which was big around that time. Actually, that was like the last song that sounded like that. Ever since then the charts are all about hip hop (24K Magic included) and tropical dance music. It would be very risky to release a song like that again... 3) Ok. 4) I think you missed when everyone was talking about how 24K magic was doing less than expected. I'm not saying that A-YO is not hit potential (it's 2nd on my list). But it's definitely more riskier than DIC. It's kinda delusional to say that the tropical sound is outdated when the #1 song rn is literally a tropical sounding song.

You really can't say A-Yo is more risky, even if you want it as a single it just isn't realistic, I mean that chorus... was NickARTPOP
Noir 17,613
I hope we get two more singles, I hope she milks the era for everything it's worth. MR has been a decent sized hit in America and Europe would eat DIC up, I think it's one of the smartest options for a single release, especially closer to the summer. Hey Girl would be my other option. A-yo is a great album track, but a single? thanks but no thanks.
