Gaga is performing in Divided America

POP2

Featured Posts

So after seeing a lot of petitions against the Gaga Half-Time show, I kind of realized how crucial this performance is for the country (That sounds dramatic but bare with me).

-Gaga is about to perform at the SuperBowl to the most divided country in Super Bowl history. People that hate her and love her will be watching. With this kind of platform, a lot of pressure is being put on her. Should she speak out against Trump? Should it just be about the music? These are all questions that we have been asking ourselves for awhile. However, the public eye is much different than ours... They don't care if she says something to jeopardize her career. They don't care if she's a Martyr. Many liberals are urging her to speak her mind, while conservatives are threatening to turn the channel if she says a word about Trump.

-She has the potential to shock the Nation. Even if it's brief, saying anything about the Trump administration or the state of our nation will be a huge shake-up. Politics is no stranger to pop music, however, not many people have used the Super Bowl as a political platform--- cue Beyonce.

-Beyonce did it... Why Cant Gaga? Even though Beyonce's political embarkment at the Super Bowl was a huge statement for the show, 1 year later, the country is even more fragile. Trump wasn't president a year ago and we weren't even sure he was going to be the republican nominee, so a lot has changed since then. People were furious with Beyonce after her ground breaking performance, so it's pretty easy to see how angry people would be if Gaga made a similar statement. However, look at Beyonce's career now, it's soaring. Maybe speaking your mind isn't a bad thing?

-If she makes a statement, all hell will break loose. Twitter will blow up. Angry white ladies will make anti-gaga/anti-NFL posts on Facebook. It will be the hot News of the week. Donald Trump will send a tweet her way. #BOYCOTTLADYGAGA will travel around the internet. All eyes will be on Gaga.

Should she do it? Yes or No?

Would this jeopardize her career?
Would this help her gain popularity?
Are people expecting this?

... My opinion... I think she should do it. I used to be against the idea of it, however, I think it would be powerful and would make halftime history!

I think we need a break from politics, though. I'm here for the music

I agree with that in a sense!! I just feel like a lot of people are looking to her (with her huge platform) as a way to speak out!

Gaga is about bringing people together.

If anything, the current divided environment presents a great opportunity to let this shine through. :flutter:

REALITY

She's said multiple times that she really wants to focus on the music, the fans, and putting together a great experience for everyone to enjoy. I personally don't think she'll directly talk about Trump or mention politics—though subtle jabs at it are probably likely.

I'm sure her and her team are fully aware of the situation and the risks at hand, and that's why I don't think she'll really say much, or really anything at all, about Trump or politics during the SB.

Gaga's strong and rebellious attitude is one of the most admirable parts of her.

The more I read the news, the more I want Gaga to make a political statement. At the same time, I know that would ruin her image once again.

The most likely scenario is that Gaga will instead make a social statement about equality and kindness.

No! It would only bring drama and negativity to her, She needs to choose her battle's wisely this is not the place for that. She's already making A statement anyways by being for the LGBT.

I don't want everything to be about Trump, why let him ruin a celebration that's 8 years in the making.

Born This Way is a political statement in and of itself. I hope she sings the bridge PROMINENTLY, maybe even with no music and just the piano for this part:

No matter gay, straight, or bi,
Lesbian, transgendered life,
I'm on the right track baby,
I was born to survive.
No matter black, white or beige
Chola or orient made,
I'm on the right track baby,
I was born to be brave.

She doesn't need to do a speech or show shocking images. Her music is the moral ground she stands on, she believes in her work and I believe she'll let it speak for itself.

She needs to perform the performance of her life to help people forget about all the hate in the world for 12 minutes and focus on something positive.

Was Beyonce's political?  Formation is about African American pride, but she didn't really make any political statement
