As Michelle Obama’s time in the White House comes to a close, avid FLOTUS watchers are looking back on some of her finest moments, all of which were punctuated by style and grace. She’s well known for her democratic fashion choices—the J.Crew sweaters and Chuck Taylor sneakers—but also managed to harness the idea of all-out glamour in unexpected ways. Her State Dinner wardrobe is the perfect example of that; only last month she welcomed the Italian prime minister and his wife, Agnese Landini, dressed in a shimmering, bronze Atelier Versace dress, a goddess-like look that will be remembered for years to come. In wearing a storied Milanese house, Obama gave a nod to the visiting nation, a sartorial sign of respect and good faith.

Her vera wang dress should replace the #1 :awkney:

tbh, the mermaid cut on the Vera Wang one does not flatter her imo. The Atelier Versace one is truly the undisputed #1.

REALITY

I love Brandon, but his dress should be in last. It just doesn't suit Michelle well.

White was established as a universal wedding color of the western world in the 1800's. It was a symbol of wealth because white fabrics could get stained extremely easily and there were little to no facilities where you could properly clean white laundry. Up until the 1930's it was still common for lower-class people to marry in black and red, especially in the countryside where infrastructure and technical advancments arrived centuries later. My grandma still married in black for example. :nick:

The white = innocence stereotype is a product of advertising and the influence of the church and wasn't really a thing back in the day like it is today.
