Jinzo 9,639
Billboard may have honored Madonna tonight as their ‘Woman of the Year’ at this year’s ‘Women in Music’ event, but the Queen of Pop is certainly receiving a royal dragging after her controversial acceptance speech. The Grammy-winning pop icon is quoted as saying: “Michael is gone. Tupac is gone. Prince is gone. Whitney is gone. Amy Winehouse is gone. David Bowie. But, I’m still standing. I’m one of the lucky ones.” source: http://thatgrapejuice.net/2016/12/watch-lady-gaga-belts-million-reasons-alan-carr/

tonythewitch 450
1 hour ago, A Gaga Lad said: I don't understand why monsters have so much contempt towards Madonna. Gaga and Madonna are kindred spirits--always attempting to break boundaries, empowering marginalized groups by bringing important social issues to the forefront, bringing art and shock into music and entertainment, both have very powerful influence in the music industry. Yes, they had a spat back then. Madonna was mean. But let's not act like Gaga also never took "jabs" long after the issue has died down. They partied together on more than one occasion. Madonna has praised Gaga long after the "reductive" comment. Gaga has praised Madonna, and even as recent as last week, she included a Madonna song in her spread kindness campaign. They both supported Hillary. Why, WHY, W H Y would monsters rather look at the difference instead of their similarities? Madonna is a legend, one of the few living ones we have. She influenced Gaga and paved the way for all your other faves you put so high in a pedestal. Madonna deserves some respect. I'm not telling you to like her or her music. What I am trying to say is to at least give credit to where it is due. She is definitely blunt and abrasive at times, but she would not have survived in the industry, she would not have been able to shape the pop music culture as it is now--the very same pop culture you enjoy with its stan wars, vicarious living with your "queens", she would have failed in furthering LGBTQ rights for this generation if not for that same bluntness. Bebe 17,094
It was awkwardly worded but the point was really 'Maybe we should give some credit and respect to those of us who have had these incredible legacies while we are still alive, rather than only appreciating them once they are gone." It came in the context of what she had said beforehand about the sexism, misogyny and ageism she has faced. The abuse, being shut out of radio and so on. I mean the woman is one of the all time greats, that is undeniable, I think her wider point was really that she doesn't feel as respected and appreciated now, It was more "all of these greats are gone, shouldn't we appreciate those of us from that time who are continuing to make music and continuing to try and push the limits of what is acceptable?" I can see how it could come across wrong though. Some people seem to be taking it as "Haha! I outlived all of these legends. They are dead! I'm not!" which would be a bizarre and horrific thing for Madonna to say, I really don't think that is what she meant though.
