Snow 1,582
You couldnt be more wrong though... Her cataloque is very very diverse in topics. Sure there are some recurrent themes that are important to her but yeah, very very diverse. Just like The music. No Madonna album is The same and she's explored pretty much every genre from country to techo, from jazz to Broadway etc.

God, opinions like this are why I hate our generation. No respect for the legends. She's the queen of pop, I love her music. Never did I say I didn't like her, sis. I just think she's done a lot of the same.

Then you really don't have sharp interpretation skills Sure on the surface it may appear its all the same, but its takes time to listen and understand what's she is really doing. That's why most people our age hate her, they're too lazy to actually take the time to dissect meaning because they're conditioned to enjoy the trash pop our ears are polluted with on a daily basis. She's obviously done a lot more than just religion but that's a good portion of it. And her fanbase is called Madgesters? Explain They can kick and attempt to throw shade all they want, but they're gonna be Little Madgesters today Her music is not heavily based in religion; I'll give you that her performances are, especially her tours, but not her music. From her first album to COADF, only one album was so significantly centered around religion and that was Like a Prayer. American Life was another one that just barely touches on religion but explores other aspects of Madonna's person, most specifically her political views and satirization of pop culture (which she could have done the latter part better) Madonna, and I'm gonna be real even though some people will think otherwise, has been wanting to be more provocative as of late for attention and sales so she places more religious and sexual juxtapositions in her recent work. In a way, Madonna is trying to be the stereotypical version of herself which is honestly failing her, but she does make good points about the abundance of double standards in western society

I get there's still an existing invisible feud between Monsters and Madgesters, but these references are there for a reason as they shaped who Madonna is. Give me a minute to tell how you're so wrong with your argument Madonna: Straight up dance-pop Like a Virgin: Yeah, I'm a rebel and I get money doing it, how are you doing? True Blue: A pop album that features themes of love, teen pregnancy, world peace Like a Prayer: An album centered around Madonna's upbringing, personal relationships, and how she copes with it all Erotica: Do not think there are any religious references here, but definitely Madonna fearlessly expressing her sexuality, and sexuality and sensuality in general Bedtime Stories: A slow moving album that show's a softer side to Madonna Ray of Light: An album about motherhood, adulthood, and womanhood Music: A pop album that is really just that at the end of the day, almost a lyrical call back to her early work American Life: Her most political album to date and can be considered almost a part two of Like a Prayer as she delves further into some of her past relationships Confessions on a Dance Floor: A pop retrospective of Madonna's career to that point with various references and overall a good time Hard Candy: Eh, terrible album but not that religious as you say MDNA: Let's just not talk about this one Rebel Heart: Pretty much just a regular pop album with religious references and Madonna trying to intentionally be provocative almost but that's on her, not judging her for that So let's not assume that Madonna's albums are not diverse, she explores many themes like 4/12 of her albums seem to heavily focus on religious material, two of them for the sake of doing so for attention (MDNA and Rebel Heart). Gaga talked about fame, as someone stated, for her first four albums. I'm elated Joanne does not focus on fame, but we cannot deny our HBiC is supposedly not doing the same Madonna is probably the most diverse pop artist there is, her music and aesthetic has always changed era-to-era, a lot more than Gaga's has for sure
Gagz 2,579
How can you say Gaga didn't use religion in TFM era when she devoted an entire section of her tour to "going to church" and preaching about Jesus loving everybody? Not to mention the song Teeth heavily incorporates religion. Plus the Alejanddo video. Then BTW era was loaded with religion. Joanne deals heavily with Christianity in songs like Joanne, Million Reasons, Sinner's Prayer, Come To Mama and Angel Down. Really, The Fame and ARTPOP are her only albums that don't deal with religion.

I'm not that crazy about Joanne, but it is different from her past work, which shows that she is likely to continue branching out and not staying in the same dance-pop box. AmenTheNight 1,084
Funny, 'cause I think of all the pop careers, she's the one who explored the more with themes, sounds, inspirations and references. Actually, I believe she's the most diverse artist among the big pop artists if we talk about themes and inspirations. And despite that, she managed to create a sort of harmony and consistency between them (bar MDNA), and that's what makes her career sound so strong. However, except for a few albums (Confessions, ROL, Erotica ...), her eras are more remembered for her singles than her albums, like Rihanna, Katy and Britney for example. That's the opposite with Beyoncé and Gaga.
