27monster27 15,783 Posted yesterday at 06:11 PM Share Posted yesterday at 06:11 PM (Sorry about it being Instagram, but I believe that this is the only place where the video is.) https://www.instagram.com/reel/DZxfNB5iswL/?igsh=dDh4aDZlZmRqN2h3 I saw this video, and I think it's fascinating. Basically, Pokerface very well could be Sweet Dreams by The Eurythmics inverted in a Baroque style. Basically, melodies can be inverted so that they can essentially have all of the same interval changes, but in the opposite direction. Bach was considered to be one of the top composers for this. When both the Pokerface intro synth melody and the Sweet Dreams melodies are played at the same time, the counterpoint of each fit perfectly and never go off key at any moment. I really don't think that this could be a coincidence. We know that Lady Gaga herself said how she heard chords from classical music and saw them in modern pop songs and used that to develop chord progressions and melodies (there's an interview where she said this, but it's gonna take a bit fir me to find it). I feel like knowing her this could be intentional, and not a reach. he/him/his 2 4 2

bxr 2,000 Posted yesterday at 07:00 PM Share Posted yesterday at 07:00 PM Ace share Not sure if this is the interview you‘re considering, but it includes a reference to the classical / pop shared sonic tapestry/interplay you mention … (~1:58) “Well actually, pop music is very similar in construction to classical music; for example, [Bach inventions / conventions ?]—which Bach made for his son, to learn how to play piano—they tell the story emotionally, the way a pop song does … the way it moves in and out of minor, and the melody. So, I guess you could say the classical music really helped me become a good songwriter.” 1

The one where she talked about it, she said something along the lines of "I heard these bach chords in *insert pop song here*." This interview still gives a good perspective of it. he/him/his

Indeed, on the blink when you first mentioned it, I thought about the interview when she said something along the lines of [heavily paraphrasing] “You don‘t have to know art compostion to appreciate a Picasso, but if you want to make art, you should …” … I don‘t think it was that exact interview either, but I think it was during that general press cycle, so many gems in The Fame/Monster into BTW press jaunts … truly an artist of the interview … but/and I‘m glad the reference is on the radar in case the exact clip crosses algorithmic paths again 1
