But my point in saying this is that Joanne is much more creative than Lemonade, at least when taking into account the music only. Plus, in my opinion Gaga's change produced good results. Idk if it's because I listen to a lot of Americana, 70's and 80s rock but I don't think its that creative. It's great but not creative.
River 116,396
Lemonade is such a bad album, lyrically, vocally, everything is so bad in it. The visual made this album critical acclaim, without it, this album would be sent to the trash.. So sploosh your juice all over me you Riverboy
Killa 17,461
Not true, Lemonade is much more focused and makes much more sense. Joanne does very little of what she intended to create. There are some highs that could easily surpass Lemonade but as a global work, it's far behind. I didnt notice it on the first hearing, but it's evident. In Joanne there are some things that could have been much better, there's great potential, in Lemonade it just seems like it should have been. Lemonade has some tracks, that for me, could have a better mixing. Though Perfect Illusion's mixing is a disaster.

ARTPOP was clearly a step down from those albums. And Joanne (imo) is slightly better than ARTPOP but it still not be as good as her early great albums. Gaga is generally a messy artist that isn't scared to try stuff. Some times they work some times they don't.. Beyonce is not like that.Beyonce is a perfectionist. She makes no mistakes in her music. I could list you many things that I consider mistakes in Beyonce's music. And most of the reason why Joanne is not liked by some as much as her earlier albums is simply because of the sounds and styles that she is going for. Since Gaga tries all kinds of music, the music that she makes won't always be in people's taste. This does not mean the music is bad.

And it is. She talks about relationships, about her family, about her desires, about the places where she has lived, and in general just about her life. Gaga also said that the album is meant to be fun and yet meaningful and it is. There are many songs that you can dance to and at the same time there are songs that have a great message like Come To Mama and Angel Down. Finally she wanted to be more organic with her sound and Joanne is definitely her most organic sounding album.

Well, she says about connecting, she wants to connect and connect people but she clearly shows that she has a great problem in connecting with her producer and collaborators, and with the public, because her voice fails a bit on delivering something that i can totally feel what she feels. Also Angel Down could have been so much better, that's one of the cases of unsuccess. Both lyrically, structure, and also the construction of the melody isn't quite right. If she's really challenging herself as a singer/songwritter and shows her weakness in that area, same goes for Joanne, the song. She taped into it, but she didn't had the courage to go full out, that's, in the end what i think the record means. It's her first step, and she's learning, she'll do much better than Lemonade. But the record shows that she's lost and not very confident. It's very clear

Some of the lyrics are simply perfect "Angel Down and everyone just stood around", or her show of desperation and anger with "where are our leaders?" and they way she shouts these words at the end. And even the way how the song ends is sort of weird and repeated manner as if she is tired of pleading for the end of violence while at the same time saying very peacefully. Honestly, I could go on about the other songs but you and I simply have different opinions.

LilVenusian 579
Lemonade was good but not thaaat good. A 90+ metacritic is ludicrous and clearly bought. 90+ should be reserved for albums that are game changers and will go down in history ( e.g My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy) I would put Lemonade on the same level as Joanne, around 75-80, both great, personal albums that show distinct growth in both artists. But in general those influences were very well used.
