Would Gaga be doing a stripped down personal album if ARTPOP was a success?

I personally think this album is her hiding behind a shell. ARTPOP's backlash and underperformance lead her to abandon her pop music and aesthetic and spend two years singing other people's songs in a voice that wasn't her own. She isn't confident in herself anymore, and her first pop song in 3 years shows that. She is afraid to fail again.  If ARTPOP was a success, she most definitely wouldn't be doing Joanne and would be trying to top her previous albums. She didn't get applause.mp3 for ARPOP, which is why she didn't keep going.

What do you guys think?

The "ARTPOP Drop" probably showed her that she can tour just about any album, with or without chart success, and that she can use that following to put out music she actually wants to make.

I don't think that's the case. I really do think that she is just making music that she wants to make. If you listen to PI and then listen to stuff that she did with Semi Precious Weapons and The Dirty Pearls, it sounds similar in different areas. I can't listen to them side-by-side right now, but if I can recall Magnetic Baby by Semi Precious Weapons is similar to PI.

Good question and good topic to talk about!

In my opinion, If ARTPOP had succeeded she wouldn't even have done the Cheek to Cheek Tour and the big promo to Jazz. She would have released the Act II and the era would have finished early 2015.

And well, now we would have been waiting for LG5 news.

She's still trying to top her previous albums imo. And it's really sad that fans want to discredit Gaga's artistic vision this time around because they don't like PI. :awkney:

Why does she have to continue making music she has already done? Why can't she do whatever she wants at the moment without people saying "she flopped and now she's going alternative"? I mean, even if that's the case why should we keep asking her to do what she clearly doesn't want?

I simply want music, I don't care which type. And then if I like it great, if I don't, the world keeps spinning the same way and I'll listen to something else while she prepares other music. I definitely wouldn't waste my time every day complaining about everything.

Would Joanne exist if ARTPOP had sold more that it did? How can I know? I don't have superpowers, but probably yes. Maybe it could have come before ARTPOP, maybe it could have come in 10 years from now.

the thing is this album is going to be even riskier than ARTPOP and can alienate her young fans who have been here because of her visuals and catchy pop tunes (which is already happening now) so anyone who says gaga is not the same anymore is clearly wrong. She just keeps doing whatever she wants, whether you like it or not. Even without ARTPOP gaga would have gone down this route sooner or later because it is her root. She came from a background of classical/jazz music and has lived her life listening to rock music so it is actually far more natural for her to put out this type of music.

I don't think it's the case. We all know ARTPOP was supposed to be something completely different than what she released. Even if it was personal for her, she still wasn't comfortable with the results. Either way she would've gone for a more stripped down path afterwards. It's just a way for her to get back to her rockstar roots (like she did for a bit during the BTW era, but showing her human side this time)

I am sure we would have got ACT II if AP was the smash everyone wanted it to be. And she wouldn't have done C2C. We would be on LG6 or 7 by now, probably.

Because dance-pop is what she is best at. And it is not fair to us when she stops serving the thing that she used to captivate us.

So the best thing is to keep bitching about it?

Yes. This forum exists to express our feelings.

Obviously we would be celebrating if Gaga released a song that the majority of us like. But most of us don't, or  find it not good enough to be chosen as lead single.
