PSYCHEDELIC: relating to or denoting drugs (especially LSD) that produce hallucinations and apparent expansion of consciousness.

As a follow up to my prievious thread about PI [the number], today we are going to talk about psychedelia. Below is a short documentary about psychedelic culture:

Correlation to Gaga: Her upcoming single that is expected to be released this week is about a psychedelic drug. Tame Impala is a psychedelic rock band, so perhaps psychedelia may influence her music later on?

So you know what Lady Gaga and Tame Impala have in common? Both artists strongly believe that they both do not have to take any type of drug in order to get ideas.

Psychedelics became a symbol of rebellion, social upheaval, and political dissent starting in the 60's until the 70's where the government had placed a ban on the drugs in order to test the safety of it. The influence of psychedelia has influenced the art world especially in music since legends such as Jimi Hendrix and The Beatles were established during this time period. Most artists used drugs such as cannabis, LSD, and magic mushrooms to open up creative pathways for writing and some even used them while performing. Sometimes fans used the drugs to enhance their experience. The Beatles were intricately influenced by drugs throughout their entire career, including their pre-era. The influence of drugs has shaped the future of rock music. This time period has obviously had its consequences however some may argue that this was one of the best time periods in music ever.

Some may argue that psychedelic music had thrived because of the rebellion against the industry. Basically, it all started in 1948 with the Supreme Court vs. Paramount case. The music industry has been run by Hollywood since the invention of “talking pictures", and radio stations did not play a lot of music, unless it was from a symphony orchestra. Since the government forced studios to get rid of studios,  several movie studios decides to make record labels. Such labels include: Paramount, MGM, United Artists, and 20th Century Fox.

The first song advertised as a psychedelic song was The Trip by Kim Fowley.

Today's discussion: Do you have a favorite psychedelic song? Have you ever tried drugs to enhance your listening experience?

I would also like for this thread to showcase amazing rock artists (preferably that are psychedelic) starting with Tame Impala.

For a more psychedelic sound, check out his album Lonerism.

Well I smoke weed every now and then and it is always awesome to write with MJH. Yeah I dont need it to be creative, but every now and then you can really find excellent material from within you that without the dope, you wouldnt have been able to pull it out as easily.

Also, I love Cream, a rock band that is extremely psychodelic. Also the British era of Fleetwood Mac (previous to Stevie Nicks) is extremely psychodelic. Their album Mr. Wonderful is an excellent listen for any fan of raw rock and psychodellic music.

Other modern groups that I love are Flaming Lips, who worked with Miley Cyrus' best album (her last one) Miley Cyrus and Her Dead Petz. I love La Femme and Glass Animals, which is maybe more trippy music than it is psychodellic.
