Tony Bennett said it best,

“The corporations took it over and they want to make so much money and they don’t care whether the public likes it or not. They think the public is ignorant, so their attitude is, ‘Don’t give them anything intelligent, because it won’t sell.' I grew up in an era where the record companies just sold records to everybody, and the whole family bought songs. Today, record companies are failing because they are putting their accent just on the young, and I think that’s rather silly. They’re missing out on thousands of people that would love to buy records but they don’t buy them because they don’t have a lasting quality."

Its not great, but i get why its popular. Most number one songs aren't the best songs ever, they are just extremely  likable and hard to hate.

Surely, you can find a few good things about closer. Just like Cold Water, Cheap Thrills, One Dance, etc.

It's a cute minimalistic summer bop :lana: better than 90% of what's charting rn so I'm glad it's so popular :classy:

Do you realise that like everyone is trying to be 'minimalistic' now? It's not even special anymore...

Girl, I thought you were talking about Closer from Nine Inch Nails and I was about to drag.

It is not our differences that divide us. It is our inability to recognize, accept, and celebrate those differences. - Audre Lorde

I'm obsessed with it. It's so like big and euphoric and emotional. Plus halsey voice is heaven on it.

Agree 100% with Bennett-kun.

Halsey's vocals are actually my least favorite part

I really like the lyrics, and the music is good (up until the after chorus segment). I also like how they utilize two people singing in a way that it comes off like a story being told.

I enjoy the simplicity, but mainly theres something about Halseys verse. Idk her voice just cuts, its very pleasing to me.

The song makes me so emo though, but thats just Halseys effect on me.

Tell me, what do you picture when you hear that song? Perhaps I can get into that mindset...
