Mister Gaga

It's britney's best album imo. It's not a masterpiece, but it's seriously good and it has been really influential over the years.

Not that huge to call it a masterpiece, but good enough to be considered one of the best pop albums of our generation.

I've seen it be claimed to be a masterpiece/ far more times than I've seen it called overrated. It deserves some acclaim, but not to the level of being called a masterpiece and all that. It may be Britney's masterpiece, which is ironic as she had little to no involvement in the actual making of the album, but it certainly hasn't earned the title of a masterpiece amongst albums in general just yet, in my opinion. Give it a few more years.

It really is not tremendously underrated. It's constantly fawned over by stans and was overlooked by critics because Britney was an absolute mess when it came out and so it tends to be forgotten, but it still gets mentioned. EDM was a thing before Blackout and I hate all this "ahead of its time" bollocks. It's a pretty standard electronic dance pop album. Wasn't the first of its kind and certainly won't be the last.

The producers made a deal with Britney's team to release it as a single but Britney was such a mess during the Blackout era (losing custody of her kids, being taken out of her own home on a stretcher, shaving her head etc.) that the era ended and so to keep the deal they put it on Circus and released it. Kind of funny because it flopped regardless and so all the fuss was for nothing.

It was ahead of its time though. In retrospect it used many elements first in mainstream pop such as dubstep and by the way Blackout saw Britney in control of pretty much everything, it's why she's the executive producer. The reason everyone fawns over it now is because it wasn't regarded highly upon release. Yes it underperformed because it had no promo because of her breakdown and once again, it was not a standard pop release at the time. It might not look like it now because of all the pop after sounded similar but it set the precedent. You're obviously biased against britney because it is a masterpiece.

Masterpieces don't have a 61 score on Metacritic

How was she heavily involved when she has just 2 writing credits on the album and didn't co-produce any of the tracks?

I'm not biased against Britney purely because I don't think her album is worthy of mass praise. Whilst not a member of the Salvation Army, I like a lot of Britney's music (Touch of My Hand and Breathe on Me are masterpieces). I've already said Blackout is a great album, but I don't think it deserves the title of a masterpiece

The first album I ever owned!  One of my friends gave it to me for my 13th or 14th birthday.  Still one of my faves!

If Britney released the cure to cancer it would still have a low score on Metacritic

No. It's so overrated by stans online. Whilst a great album and Britney's best, I don't understand why people act as if it's a groundbreaking, never-before-been-done body of work that deserves countless awards and endless acclaim.

However: Gimme More, POM, BTI, Freakshow >>>

Thing is I can make a counter-argument , many people say this album is overrated and doesn't deserve that much acclaim by fans then can I know what albums do :toofunny:

Surely from the millions of albums, there should be masterpieces that stand out ?

Maybe because it solidified her comeback after her breakdown?

Not a Britney stan but I liked the singles of this album a lot before Gaga came

I think it deserves the credits it gets but some can be a little delusional about it. It's one of my favorite albums though

No. It's a fun album but some fans like to see it as the next coming of Jesus Christ or the most important pop album ever, only because it's Britney, but it's not. It MAY have influenced the sound of some future releases but that's it. It was the album that Britney released after her breakdown and everything bad that was happening in her life at the time, which ended up being fun music, but that's it.

In The Zone will always be my favorite Britney album. I honestly could never take Britney's music serious because she doesn't write it herself, but that album and Blackout were the ones she was the most involved in (As far as we know) but ITZ really has my respect because of the sound it went for.

Some fans see this as Britney's masterpiece because it's a super dance album, kind of the way Confessions is Madonna's super dance album. They're both great, but many people tend to go for this sound (or because they're popular) and call it their best without listening to their other material.

Off-Topic does any one know why Radar was carried over to Circus and released as single years later

They had a contract with the producer of Radar that it was going to be one of the singles of Blackout, but I think they wrapped it up after Break The Ice so they could work on Circus, so they included the song there so it could be released as a single and finish the contract. One of the worst Britney songs I've listened to though. I deleted it because I couldn't stand her voice.

Good pop album but very overrated by fans who try to brainwash people into thinking it is some kind of masterpiece.
