What was it like as a little monster from 2008-11

It was so exciting. Each interview was unique, her videos were drop-dead amazing, she was in photoshoots and on magazines everywhere. She was so deep and different than everyone else.

That's why BTW -- the album and the era -- was so great. It was the culmination of everything we loved about TF and TFM Gaga and musically + vocally she was just out of this world. It was a shame it was cut short with her hip accident, but if you saw Gaga in 2008-2011, you'd understand how it happened. Gaga has worked herself near death before, including being taken in an ER from a show, near fainting on stage, and vomiting during a show too.

For one thing, the hype leading up to the release of Born This Way was unexplainable exciting. Gaga was just finishing up The Monster Ball, and the whole world was still in love with her. She would talk about the album as the best of the decade, and we all believed it. After all, it was really the first era that we had to wait for new music. (The Fame Monster came out very quickly.) We were so involved in her creative process—Gagavision allowed for this. When Judas came out, GagaDaily ERUPTED. The actual era was the most social media oriented: we got joke conversations between her and Tara frequently. // As for The Fame Monster era, Gaga hadn't been famous for very long, so EVERYTHING she did was brand new. Her outfits were CRAZY, and we all looked forward to seeing what she would wear and do at each appearance she made. Her shock value was at its absolute peak. The hype for her music videos, ESPECIALLY Alejando, was HUGE. We were as thirsty for that music video alone as we are now for LG5. // The Fame era was basically Gaga as the new "it" girl. It was her most successful era on the radio; she was on it ALL the time. // We waited a long time for ARTPOP; it was the first time Gaga made us really wait for information while not giving us anything else. And believe it or not, as absent as she is right now, she was more unheard from during the months leading up to ARTPOP. She was silent. It was as if she didn't exist. The most we got as a fanbase was the occasional picture of her hiding her face, which would either be taken by a fan or a paparazzo. Monsters questioned her loyalty to us, just as they are doing now. (I am proud to say that I have stuck by her.) A month or two before the announcement of Applause's and ARTPOP's respective release dates, though, we got a few pictures posted by Gaga herself. Other than that, we got virtually nothing until the day that that infamous picture of Gaga with the ARTPOP mask was uploaded to her website. It was a surprise announcement; no one was expecting it. During the months leading up to November 11th, we heard all but two or three songs from the album. (I think this hurt her sales, as there was little excitement when the album actually came out.) At the time, Gaga and Troy were having creative differences, which ultimately led them to split. Powers higher than Gaga screwed the era's success in the eyes of the GP. The whole era was messy. No DWUW music video, Venus was scrapped as a single at the last minute, and G.U.Y. was an unsuccessful attempt at a recovery on the radio. The tour didn't feature acting and was said to be low budget. Nevertheless, I LOVE ARTPOP. The album is phenomenal, and I hold it as high as her other albums. It's not The Fame Monster—it's ARTPOP. It's different. I went to both The Monster Ball and artRAVE: the ARTPOP ball, and I can honestly say I had WAY more fun at the artRAVE. No matter what it looks like online, the ARTPOP Ball consumed you when you were there. It was all around you, and the energy was BEYOND BREATHTAKING. When Gaga announced that Applause was the last song, (Swine and Gyspy were a surprise, and I didn't watch the show before attending, as doing so for TMB made it less exciting,) I was SHOCKED that two hours had gone by. My heart was pounding. // As much as people make fun of the C2C era, it was really nice. It was relaxing, to be honest. I went and saw her and Tony on its supporting tour, and I had so much fun. I even rushed the stage and got Tony's autograph at the end! (Gaga didn't sign, and now that I have watched her talk at the Emotion Revolution online, I know why.) Still, that night was a LOT of fun. It was filled with great music and class, as well as SUPERB vocals. And Gaga was SO SO HAPPY. I loved every minute of it. And that brings us to the end of the era, when you became a stan. I really hope this helps, (let me know if it does,) I put a lot of effort into it! :) Paws up!

this was perfect, thank you so much! It feels like I went through her entire career, and this'll remind me not to complain about the LG5 wait since the OG fans have dealt with this multiple times. That was honestly really helpful

It was a wild ride honestly. It was such an awesome time to be a stan back then cause she just came bursting through the gates as a force to be reckoned with. Eventful music video releases, epic showstopping performances (not that she doesn't have that now, but it was much more in your face '08-'11). There was something new to look at almost everyday. Demo leaks, hundreds of interviews, numerous magazine spreads. She was everywhere, and it was so fascinating to come home after school and catch up with what Gaga was doing.

If you were around for TFM and BTW's release, you'd understand why so many people have a problem with ARTPOP. It's basically a failed era, in comparison to every other album.

I agree with this. TFM and BTW eras were set up so well. ARTPa just felt like "here ya go"

It honestly was the best. Like someone mentioned earlier, we got something literally every single day. She really curated the hell out of everything. She made paparazzi photographs look like photoshoots. A trip to the make-up store became an event, she created era's within an album era (the "Shoulder Pad Jumpsuit" in all the different colors, the Tea Cup London Lady" or the "Malibu Barbie"). It was the best. Her team were organically young, fresh talents who came up with the best creative direction... It was flawless. I really do miss it. It was moment in time you had to experience to fully get it. It truly was magical.

I wish I could go back to my 8th grade self listening to her tracks before the US edition came out. I remember listening to Poker Face (in my basement dancing all vogue and high fashion :gaycat:) and once the song was completed, I would have to scroll the YouTube video to the beginning to listen again (this was on my first generation iTouch :air::air:)

Then my friend, whose mother watched Chinese television and used Chinese music downloaders, downloaded the whole The Fame album and gave it to me. It's still so special to me and I'm glad I listened to Again Again so early in the game :rockstar:

Those are the moments I'm going to remember the most.

Most recently, I remember the day Applause was released and I had lost my iPod so I literally downloaded the song onto my computer, brought it with me in the car, and blasted the song from the computer using my aux cord :air::air:

Currently listening to Joanne

I've been a LM literally since the beginning... I remember falling in love with Just Dance in May/June 2008 and then becoming a full blown stan when the international edition of 'The Fame' was released in August. And first hearing "Poker Face"

2008-2009-2010 was definitely the most exhilarating time. I also lived in Missouri at the time (midwest USA), so getting to see the shift take place from virtually NO dance music on Top 40 radio whatsoever, to Gaga's arrival, and then all the copycats that came after was truly mindblowing.

I am a lifelong dance-pop music die hard. So this was like the 2nd coming of Jesus Christ to me. Gaga resurrected dance music on US pop radio!!! Right before my very eyes.

The entire world was captivated by her outlandish fashion. She had as many haters as she did fans since the very beginning. But, there was something the haters could not deny --- EVERYONE in the pop game changed their approach after Gaga arrived. Suddenly all pop stars were wearing "crazy" outfits and spending lots more money on their music videos.

Gaga's every move was literally followed by mainstream America. I would go to my office for work and I would have co-workers of all ages telling me about seeing her on TV, etc... And most of them saying how much they were surprised that they really enjoyed her music.

---------

In summary, Gaga's "reign" at the top may have only sustained itself for 3 and a half years, but that was enough time to cement her place in history as one of the most impactful pop artists to ever emerge. We joke about "ha impact" but in all seriousness ---- Gaga's impact is matched by very few.

OMG, yes!!  Those were the good old days, indeed!  I remember falling in love with her when I first watched the Just Dance video in a gay bar in Ft. Lauderdale some time around May or June in 2008.  It was the best time to be a stan because everything about Gaga was enigmatic to say the least.

I don't care what you think about unless it is about me.

It was great because I wasn't a member of this cult site until late 2011, so my innocence as a Gaga fan was still intact.

TF era was still a new time for everybody. Just like the GP we were warming up to our queen and seeing what makes her tick. I don't even think we took note of how commercially successful she was we were just really excited for this crazy new artist who was bringing something new to the world of pop.

Bad Romance and TFM is what really solidified her in the mainstream and made her a respectable artist. Even though that era is really adored now it was kind of a distant, cold time to be a fan tbh. It was a dark time for her personally and although she channeled into really good songs I dont think there was such a warm connection in the fanbase. Even if you just look at interviews from back then she was really stoic, distant and serious all time and not as carefree and open as she seems to be know.

BTW was when things really peaked in the fandom though and when we really started to bond with gaga as a person. The hype building up to that to that album was like nothing else. We were so invested in the album it was kind of unhealthy. We reached another mini peak before AP but we've definetely calmed our tits since then. I think it also has to do with the fan base getting older. Most of the original core fanbase are reaching adulthood now so we don't have the energy to be rabid little monster stans like we did in our younger days :toofunny:

It was A LOT of fun honestly. It was the best pop era since Britney's golden years from 1999 to 2003. Gaga OWNED 2008 to 2010 and she was unstoppable. She declined popularity wise due to overexposure and controversy in 2011 but she was still everywhere and she was fierce. In the pop world, Madonna, Britney and Gaga had the biggest pop peaks/eras ever. I honestly don't see another pop "it" girl coming close to their exposure and popularity.

Let me tell you a little known fact (and GGDs secret shame). Well, one of.

It is that almost none of the Original Monsters from 2008-2011 are still to be found on GGD.

Only a few managed to survive the hateful episode known as the Great Gaga Bashing of 2012-2015.

Those brave and loyal souls know who they are.
