Officials Recover Body of 2-Year-Old Taken by Alligator

"Officials have recovered the body of the 2-year-old boy who died after beingtaken by an alligator Tuesday night at a Disney resort in Orlando.

At a press conference late Wednesday afternoon, Orange County Sheriff Jerry Demings identified the toddler as Lane Graves, son of Matt and Melissa Graves of Elkhorn, Neb. The couple was also vacationing with their 4-year-old child.

The toddler had been playing in shallow water on the bank of a man-made lake at Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort & Spa.

Demings said the 2-year-old’s body was recovered, “completely intact,” around 3:30 p.m. Wednesday by the sheriff department’s dive team. His body was found in the area of the shore where he was taken, but murky water made it difficult to locate immediately.

Nick Wiley, executive director of the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission, said officials removed several alligators from the lake on Wednesday and will work to confirm that the specific alligator involved is among them.

“We’re going to make certain that we have the alligator that was involved and that we remove it from the lake,” Wiley said at the press conference."

So he was dragged, and bitten but no limbs were missing? 

Is it normal for alligators to drag its prey and not eat it? 

If the body of the toddler is intact then he died by drowning?

So many questions.

He most likely died drowning, but I'm honestly surprised. As far as I know alligators drag their prey into the waters and then start eating.

Alligators and crocodiles have jaws strong enough to crack a turtle shell, according to the National Zoo, and prey on fish, snails, birds, frogs and “mammals that come to the water’s edge.” Their vise-like grip is nearly impossible to escape because the animals perform a spinning move, called the “death roll,” to drown and subdue their prey.

Can somebody explain me how could he get into a lake full of alligators? Or weren't these alligators supposed to be there? Or were they domesticated?

Alligator snatched the boy from his father's arms and then drowned him. For some reason it didn't eat him.

It will probably be killed, they already killed 4 of them, looking for the remains of the boy.

Because the alligator was doing what it is genetically programed to do: kill food for it's survival. Disney was built around the body of water knowing alligators were present, rather than the alligators being placed in the water after Disney was built. They put up PLENTY of warning signs in multiple languages (with images too), clearly stating not to go in or near the water. The parents, having been near the water before, must've taken note of the signs-- making them aware of the dangerous animals in the water. They were not paying close enough attention to realize a 2-year-old near the DANGEROUS WATER is a bad idea. They are 100% to blame for their horrible parenting. Obviously it is a tragic situation, but the alligator can't be blamed for it's actions. It is unfortunate other alligators were killed while finding the body because they didn't do anything either.

it's honestly disgusting how you put all the blame on parents, without knowing the full story. There were "no swimming" signs ONLY and they weren't swimming. The family is from Nebraska and you can't expect all the tourists to know about dangerous waters in Florida.
